Keeping the conversation going because this is growing arms and legs. This is a follow on to the previous threads (Crunch Time, Docky Wock etc). I hope the contributors will come back to chat.

I’ve just watched a Channel 4 news podcast. Minnie Stephenson interviewing the comedian Shappi Khorsandi. It’s worth a watch. Upsetting to see her upset.

I hope the women from the trial have follow up support. Still do not understand why the judge didn’t intervene in the rape myths defence. I hope this has an impact in court processes.

I watched a documentary about K spacey ages ago about him allegedly sexually assaulting men by groping them. One of them spoke about how he froze when it was happening and this was accepted as an entirely normal response. Not for women though.

What now for Laura and the children? Does anyone know whether there is due process to be followed in these cases? Will social services be involved in investigating the wellbeing of the children, for example?

Can you imagine how he must feel in his cell. Bet he’s seething. It’ll be everyone else’s fault of course.

I hope that this law change will swiftly follow...
".. for a legal duty that would require judges to direct juries on rape myths and misconceptions in every rape trial.

"It shouldn't be possible for inaccurate statements to be made to a jury to suggest that because a rape victim didn't behave in one way that somehow undermines their case." "

Why would children's services be involved? Laura will stand by him. She'll lobby for him to be given extra praying time and 1:1 with the chaplin.

Yeah, I figure she will too. I’m wondering whether in cases of rape or other violent convictions, would it trigger children’s services to check on the welfare of the children who have been raised by and around a dangerous individual?

Decent judges do do this,
but that still doesn’t mean they the juries will take any notice. I’d prefer rape trials not to be tried by juries.A specially trained panel would be a million times better

Thanks @Mamamia35!

Looks like a good thing has come out of Ian Winter’s abysmal performance in closing speech.

A close up of Andy Burnham's head

Victims in rape cases must not feel like they are on trial, Burnham says

The PM was responding after a police chief said comments made during Russell Brand's trial came close to "victim blaming".

The barrister has reported himself to the relevant professional standards committee according to the Times. I assume before someone else does. This was for his comments outside court . I did not realise that in doling out briefs they operate a “next cab off the rank” system. Having said that surely they can say I don’t think I’m the best fit for this.

Disappointing, but not surprising.

Not sure whether this has been posted before but it's absolutely shocking and I think Dan Neidle is doing great work bringing it to light https://taxpolicy.org.uk/2026/11/07/russell-brand-secret-injunction/

I am feeling really troubled by that. I hope the light he is shining on it gets some traction. It's disturbing that our courts have not only done something so abhorrent - but upheld it.

I really enjoy the thought of him in his cell, I have to say. No one there to pontificate to. No brainwashed adoring wife to sit and ‘mmhmmm’ at everything he says. It’s a very satisfying thought.

TouchMyBumThisIsLife · Today 15:53

He wont last long in prison.

I take a different view - I think he will be absolutely fine and will end up being quite a cult like wing ringleader.

At least the officers might make him have a shower. Finally.

On what grounds would they get involved though? As long as Laura Brand is seen to be protective and provides a safe environment, there won't be a problem. Probation may well take a different view and there would be a conversation with probation and the prison before RB has any further contact with his kids.

No, only if they would be professional embarrassed. They can’t pick and choose. It’s one of the reasons England is said to have such a strong legal system because people have a proper defence team and so can’t say no one would be my council so I wasn’t properly represented in court.

And if he gets more convictions and a longer sentence?

Everyone will forget about him quickly enough.

Lemonfrost · Today 16:13

Maybe on the outside, but he will be a handful on the wing.
