Rioting kicking off again in France, this time with a grim Halloween connection.

Here's an eyewitness account of the worst night of rioting two weeks ago, from a Brit working in Strasbourg – and his search for causes. It went viral when lots of journalists reposted it.

(I posted an earlier version on another thread, but the article has now been updated. I post it here as lots of people have found it helpful in understanding what's going on.)

Thank you. I have family in Paris and Nice. A worrying time.

I thought that it had calmed down over here in France - at least a little - but apparently not. I'm now getting a bit concerned about what is going on in Poland.

I thought that somebody might have started a thread about the Polish situation but it doesn't seem to have been covered much in the UK so far.

Thanks for posting that link.

So it starts off with something that is valid to protest about (underfunded education) before turning into violence from dubious groups including those who want to defund the police and/or burn cars for fun etc. Basically violence for violence sake from balaclava'd men.
