This story just made me so sad, the poor child - and his family. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/7476900.stm

Ouch. Nice thread title!

Yes. Some people are total bastards.

Not going to read your link though.

ssd · 27/06/2008 17:45

awful

but going by the picture alone I wouldn't leave my dog with him

sweetkitty · 27/06/2008 17:47

True wouldn't have left a goldfish with him

vile scum does not deserve to be on this earth

I truly hope he gets what he deserves

Hecate · 27/06/2008 17:56

He's going to prison. I guarantee he'll have a hard time. By all accounts they don't hold back in there when it comes to this kind of crime.

ssd · 27/06/2008 17:57

I was thinking the same thing about Entwhistle, hopefully prison will be hell on earth for him too

lardybump · 27/06/2008 17:58

I hope he rots

expatinscotland · 27/06/2008 18:02

he'll be 36 when he gets out.

plenty of time for him to kill a whole lot more.

right up there with the chap who had raped at least 10 women and was out on bail when he raped and murdered a young mother because a trial was 'not in the public's interests' according the judge who allowed him back on the streets.

when is this so-called justice system going to get the message that some people NEVER belong out again?

reethi96 · 27/06/2008 18:03

I don't expect it will be long before someone comes along asks that we give him sympathy.

Lets hope he spends the rest of his pointless existence in terror.

BouncingTurtle · 27/06/2008 18:09

Horrible horrible story.
He'll get no sympathy from me.
Hope that every horror he inflicted is revisited on him tenfold.

RusselBrussel · 27/06/2008 18:13

What on earth makes a 17 year old behave this way???
I just don't get it. Are they born evil?

I hope he has such a hard time in prison he is a gibbering wreck when he comes out.

No sympathy from me, ever.

And I agree, he looks decidedly creepy in that picture.

davidtennantsmistress · 27/06/2008 18:16

bastard.

Rosaline · 27/06/2008 18:44

I haven't read the link but I agree with expat- our prison sentences are way too lenient for these types of crimes. We could learn a lot from the US.

cupsoftea · 27/06/2008 20:16

another short sentence - why is life so cheap, why don't these terrible people get life for a life.

LynetteScavo · 27/06/2008 20:27

I too was wondering what makes a 17 yo do this, and can only imagine he has been teated in a similar way himself. Of course that doesn't excuse his actions atall. I'm just trying to understand why someone would ever do this.

yerblurt · 27/06/2008 20:34

christ I'm just confused.

confused at how any human being can even behave like

confused at our rather poor sentencing policy, which should mean life.

life should mean life.

not 18 years minimum and then considered for parole.

It should mean exactly that - this crime was of such a horrendous nature that he should spend every single day of his existence incarcerated.

And do hard labour. break rocks. dig ditches.

luckily inside he will not be given a pleasant time by the other inmates and hopefully will have the shit kicked out of him every single day. fucking scum.

sweetkitty · 28/06/2008 13:29

I read the paper today and wished I hadn't
so as well as the 18yo who assaulted and murdered an 18 month old boy we have

  • the 22yo mother and pub landlord who starved her 3yo daughter to death, the poor wee mite lay unnoticed for 2 days FFS how can you fail to notice your 3yo was dead for 2 days unless she was used to never being looked at? What that LO went through prior to her death she only got 16 years
  • a man who had repeatedly assaulted babies and had pictures on his phone of newborns being raped was jailed but could be OUT in 2 years
  • the "mother" who left her 2yo son for 2 days penned into the kitchen and foraging for scraps from a bin whilst she was out

These stories have horrified and disgusted me they don't even make front page news, are we so used to stories of toddlers being killed that it's not longer news.

What about the courts who are dishing out sentences that are laughable, surely it's just allowing these people to be released to reoffend, how can they sleep at night? I feel truly sickened today.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 28/06/2008 13:34

Just to clarify on the sentence - he must serve 18 years minimum before being considered for parole. It is then up to the parole board to decide if he is still a risk. He will not automatically released after 18 years.

(I have no idea how the parole board decide btw)

ButterflyMcQueen · 28/06/2008 13:41

dont any of you think he must be ill???

sweetkitty · 28/06/2008 13:44

Of course he's ill you would have to be to do what he did, I have read some literature that stated that 90% of child abusers had been abused themselves as children and it was the only way they could express love and affection. Vicious circle.

I think once convicted of a crime like that you should never be allowed out of prison, these people cannot be reformed it is hardwired into their brains.

ButterflyMcQueen · 28/06/2008 13:46

that statistc is not one many abuse victims like hearing sk

LynetteScavo · 28/06/2008 13:56

BMcQ - He is obviously ill.

Pinkranger · 28/06/2008 13:59

so sad and your post SK

sweetkitty · 28/06/2008 15:57

I know BMcQ but also means a lot of abuse victims do break the cycle.

The whole situation just makes me so

Flower3554 · 28/06/2008 16:00

Butterfly, I think there is a vast difference between "ill" and "sick"

CrushWithEyeliner · 28/06/2008 16:02

That story is sincerely the most disturbing and horrifying piece of news i think I have ever read. He must be quite simply, subhuman to have done what he did.

If he was mentally ill however wouldn't they have stated so? The alternative is just unthinkable. I feel utterly sick at this story.
