the reason its got such a low b/f rate is because it has such a high rate of teenage pregnancies - another problem which in itself they are attempting to tackle

there are some fabulous changes on the cards and am not sure having visited it once in the past 14yrs you'll have managed to see all the improvements that have been made, forgive me if am wrong

like all places, Dundee has some shite areas and some equally good areas

fully agree MrsMacaroon, when I arrived from Glasgow in 1994 for Uni (AND it was my first choice) I thought I'd entered a shopping desert wasteland but whilst at uni we basically staying in the campus bubble only venturing to certain areas the longer we were here!!!

I moved away again after graduating but eventually found my way back and stay just over the bridge now and I have to admit I love it and all the improvements that have come and are planned are great for the area - the next step is knocking down the Hilton/Olympia etc and putting in a Marina - can you imagine - a Marina in Dundee

Acutally, there is now a great improvement in Breastfeeding support at the hospital. They are working towards their UNICEF Baby Friendly status and to that end they now have BF Peer Support Volunteers. I am one of them.

We also had our first meeting of Dundee Birth Choices last night.

Also we have a fantastic consultant midwife whose remit is to Keep Childbirth Natural and Dynamic, and she will be encouraging normal irth, waterbirth, and also not just for low risk women, and this will all be increased when the new alongside-MLU is opened later in the year.

I'm aware of the Give it for Baby initiative and have told some mums about it when I could, but so far it seems to fall on deaf ears
