I don’t understand him at all. The injuries that poor little mite must have suffered.

I don’t agree with the death penalty. It doesn’t work really but I also don’t feel that just being jailed for life is enough for him

Father jailed for murdering premature son in front of nurses

Daniel Gunter, 27, inflicted catastrophic injuries to the head, neck, legs and jaw of 14-day-old Brendon Staddon at Yeovil District Hospital in Somerset on March 5 last year.

FFS why post this - horrible - even with the TW you've given

DenDenDenise · 03/10/2025 18:36

I've not clicked the link you've posted btw

CordlessHoover · 03/10/2025 18:46

PLEASE DO NOT CLICK THE LINK
Or click with caution

I had the misfortune to stumble across it when it originally happened.

Its utterly harrowing.
Possibly the worst thing I have ever heard of

Most chillingly in the article I read it reported the mother was in the room with him / was the last to see the baby then went with him outside for a fag called over her shoulder to the nurses they should check on him as he "seemed cold".

I wish I had never read it i still get flashing images of it

user593 · 03/10/2025 18:56

Absolutely horrific. I hope he never gets out.

FknOmniShambles · 03/10/2025 18:56

Stop with the "do not click" nonsense. It's clear what the topic relates to so there's no obligation to click.
We are all adults and abhorrent though this is, we need to be aware of what is going on in the world around us.
I shed tears over this earlier, it takes your breath away to even think about.
I am pro death penalty and with this individual would happily flick the switch myself.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/10/2025 19:18

Words cannot even begin to describe .
He is an utterly gormless POS with no redeeming features . Even when he was arrested he was all "No , what are you talking about .....can have some of that vape"? After causing the injury -fatal injury- to every part of this baby's body , he wants to get his vape into his face
He was reported to have been rough with this tiny baby changing him and not heeding medical advice when he was fed and needed to be still.

That poor baby never stood a chance ,
But the mother - not charged ? For anything ?

He had a traumatic childhood ( it was said) so not the ideal basis to bring a new life into this world .

Would I support the death penalty for this man.

100% yes

suburberphobe · 03/10/2025 19:22

Jesus, Can't read that...

Hope they lock him up and throw away the key,

66boat66 · 03/10/2025 19:28

Poor little baby boy

Soubriquet · 03/10/2025 19:33

Sorry if I’ve upset anyone but I did post a very clear warning.

It’s disturbing what he did and I just don’t understand why. It’s inhumane

I read part of this news article.

Can anyone elaborate as to how he got away with it, without a member of staff intervening?

I read he denied it, but was there not CCTV as proof?

Sorry if I sound stupid. But I didn't read the full thing.

JadedVeryJaded · 03/10/2025 19:36

Yes I read as much as I could stomach. I hope he gets the shit beaten out of him in jail. Every. Single. Day. And more.

Couldn’t give a shit that he had a traumatic childhood. This article made me very very angry.

DancingNotDrowning · 03/10/2025 19:44

It says in the report that the parents had been told their baby would be removed at birth - Why were they allowed anywhere near him?

I am not excusing him in the least .But he did not come from a stable background did he ?
He has a low IQ so probably not having the capacity to care for a baby especially a vulnerable one .Ignoring advice from staff on looking after the baby Brendon.
Also a previous assault .

I suppose now questions will be asked why he was able to do this in the security of a Baby Unit .
And why this baby was not taken into care at birth ?

No Death Penalty but if he is beaten up in prison I will struggle to care .

I believe the hospital are also at fault here. He wasn't safeguarded.

CatchTheWind1920 · 03/10/2025 19:53

I've just read this with my two year old having just fallen asleep in my arms. How anyone, let alone parents, could do something like that to a small child is incomprehensible. That poor little baby.

Pumpkinpoodles · 03/10/2025 19:56

It’s too disturbing to read any further. I stumbled on it. It said he had a low IQ. Absolutely wicked. It’s a shame the hospital didn’t have the power to block him from visiting. It must be devastating for the medics and family. So many precious children are lost after being born into completely unsuitable families.

Rockhopper81 · 03/10/2025 20:00

It sounds like a massive hospital safeguarding failure in terms of him having any unsupervised access to the baby - if the plan was ‘removal at birth’, birth parents would still have been able to see baby in hospital, but they never should’ve been unsupervised or left alone with the baby.

(I say this as someone whose child came to them via adoption after ‘removal at birth’, where baby was actually in hospital for 4 days with birth mum, but due to the circumstances they were never unsupervised.)

That, of course, in no way exonerates the actions of this man - it is a horrific event by an, at best, person of very limited cognitive ability, at worst, a complete sociopath - but it is something that should never have had the opportunity to happen.

Soubriquet · 03/10/2025 20:14

I didn’t see the part where it was removal at birth, but if it was, the hospital are going to be in for a lot of trouble.

Safeguarding failed this little new born! I thought preemies would have a bit more monitoring, so how was he able to do what he did.

OP posts:
Ncforthiscms · 03/10/2025 20:19

My premature adopted baby was removed at birth with police present.
No idea why these birth parents were allowed to be with the baby unsupervised - no police, no security, no social worker, not even a nurse present.
If he was indeed 'in the care of social services' then there should be an inquiry into this.
Poor little boy didn't have a chance.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 03/10/2025 20:19

I fostered a dc removed at birth. He couldn’t leave hospital until feeding was secure. They managed to prevent the bf seeing him as they had a specific condition dangerous to babies. Otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to prevent it, and I wasn’t able to be there all the time as I had other dc.

I think it can be hard to imagine how dangerous such a man is. You might think supervision is popping in and out, not leaving them for any length of time.

Soubriquet · 03/10/2025 20:22

His mug shot is….chilling. His eyes are really dead behind them and I find it hard to look at him

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 03/10/2025 20:36

Horrifying. The phrase 'safeguarding failure' doesn't come close.

If the facts of the case are as reported (this is the DM, remember), then there will be surely be an enquiry into the systemic failures that allowed this man already assessed to be high risk to access the baby in the first place.

His difficult childhood and any associated mental health, developmental and emotional difficulties will likely be taken into account but they don't absolve him of responsibility for his actions.

Curlywirlytrees · 03/10/2025 20:53

He deserves more than prison. Sick sick man.
Rip little man.

Notmymarmosets · 03/10/2025 21:03

So he's an abused person with learning disabilities and the mother is likewise entirely unable to be a parent
He was known to be violent and useless and she was known to at least be useless. It was long since established that neither of them were fit to parent and the baby was to be taken into care.
This was so preventable. Massive massive safeguarding failure, bordering on absolutely negligence.
