Save the economy my arse. Your irresponsible spend when you could have been saving got us here. You aren't going to save us... let alone "again".

He just looks more and more out of touch with reality.

"But also surprising how many good people do go into politics to try to make things better. And are ground down by events and wildly delusional theories."

I am actually scared that Crash Gordon is one of these. To me that is much more frightening than just another sleazy prime minister.

If he really believes he can dictate oil prices, for instance, either he is bonkers or Britannia somehow controls the world.

god andrew marr - there's a man to trust above all others

Brassica

I don't think he is responsible for the price of oil or the global economic slowdown ... anymore than he ws responsible for the global economic growth that characterised most of the years he was in charge of the UK economy.

I would invite you to recap what he did while the sun shone:

  • he robbed the pension funds so that I personally will have to work an extra four years (if I can) to compensate for it
  • he sold the gold at the low point
  • he introduced stealth tax after stealth tax
  • and he squandered all the money on expanding public sector spending by nearly 60% in real terms - with little in the way of discernable benefits
winebeforepearls · 15/05/2008 20:33

I'm sure he knows perfectly well he can't control things like that - but he's been backed into a corner and has to make rather wild promises to save himself.

And being the muppet I am I do feel rather sorry for him

This will pass once I stop drinking you understand

MT, I don't 'trust' his opinion 100% either or swallow entirely his version of events, but it's an interesting read and puts quite a lot in perspective.

Quattro - I agree

and New Labour inherited a golden legacy from the Tory purse when they took power.

wot about deciding on building 100,000 homes in Kent while demolishing houses in the North, expanding Heathrow so the road system will collapse and failing to invest in alternative enrgy sources so oil prices don't slam us?
Oh, and not investing in the countries' own food production so we have 40,000 tonne lorries on tiny B roads from the continent continuously?

My favourite is: paying doctors over £100k for working shorter hours and never having to visit their patients at home? And consultants getting 40% more pay for less work as well?

Arg!

The Pathfinder scheme (I think it was called) is one of the most dreadful policies ever thought up and supported by nobody who actually lives in the areas. For that alone Prescott should be strung up.
