sorry, ladies!

(If this was news to anyone)

Trust the Sun to go for that most obvious headline!

OP posts:
Pan · 11/05/2008 01:22

Well that does seem to be the clinching proposition, doesn't it?

'If you're at all famous/showbiz and gay then the Sun or any grubbying journo-type has a right to out you. Because that's the way it is, and no-one will be at all surprised'

cheers edam. I don't feel reassured that the world of journalism is safe in your hands.

Tortington · 11/05/2008 01:25

was he outed or did he come out?

if the former - thats a bit nasty

if the latter

what edam said

in general

i dont give a shit i am just bored. Another gay celebrity so what>?

Bectheneck · 11/05/2008 01:50

Engelbert Humperdinck's gay???!!!!

As my ex MIL said about Freddie Mercury 'He can't be gay. He's so..butch'

edam · 11/05/2008 09:27

Come of it, Pan, Derren Brown has 'people' and chose this course of action. He's hardly some ordinary Joe caught in a tabloid storm. This is exactly what Max Clifford would have advised him - prevents the Sun and the Screws of the World making anything of it.

And why the hell should he have to pretend he's straight anyway? FFS male homosexuality hasn't been a crime for 40 years.

edam · 11/05/2008 09:27

off, even - still waking up!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/05/2008 09:32

PMSL - I opened the thread thinking 'WTF - Derren Brown's been in prison?'

melpomene · 11/05/2008 09:39

Saggarmakersbottomknocker - snap! His being gay is old news to fans.

edam · 11/05/2008 09:40

me too, saggar!

dirtylittlepunk · 11/05/2008 09:43

yeah i wondered where he got out of
who cares really
people are gay, so what

Pan · 11/05/2008 09:51

well, I think people who are gay and wish their private life to remain private are those 'who cares really'. It's easy for hetros to say 'who cares?'. Homophobia is not entirely in our past. Alot just goes unspoken.

edam. I appreciate you aren't responsible forthe entire journalistic output of the country.. Just a bit surprised you weren't more circumspect as a journalist. And a bit ed at UQD for posting this in any case.

I think you should apply to The Moral Maze, Pan, you'd do very well.

Pan · 11/05/2008 09:56

very droll..

dirtylittlepunk · 11/05/2008 09:58

do you know if im gay or straight and do you care..i think not
and im sure the vast majority of the country dont give a damn either
i just dont understand why people are bothered enough to want to know someones sexuality
so someone famous is gay, big deal, his business not mine

edam · 11/05/2008 11:24

As long as you used your MN name I might even listen to it rather than reaching for the off switch.

UnquietDad · 11/05/2008 15:35

LOL at "Derren Brown's been in prison."

Come on, Pan, there are far worse things posted here. I put it up partly in case it was a surprise to anyone, and partly to have a groan at the predictable un-PC-ness of the Sun headline.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 11/05/2008 15:40

i never knew he was gay! i told dp, he said 'good for him'

'why do you say that' i asked. 'because i fancy him' he answered.

all in all he's pretty weird isn't he, i just can't work out how he does that stuff.

Tinker · 11/05/2008 19:43

I didn't know about Englebert Humerdinck either. Can't say I've exactly been chewing my nails thinking about it but...

edam · 11/05/2008 20:26

Ooooh, did I say Engelbert? I meant Liberace!

southeastastra · 11/05/2008 21:02

the liberace story is so sad

WanderingTrolley · 11/05/2008 21:07

I note that Mr Brown has timed his closet-exit to coincide with the start of his new television series.

[cynic]

Pan · 11/05/2008 21:24

Hardly WT...he had already dicussed 'man-on-man" to the Independent...from his web site..

"For anyone confused as to why Derren would seem to be 'coming out' again, and this time to the tabloids: the article in the Sun yesterday was something of a suprise. Derren had answered a couple of questions from a Sun journalist within a half-hour interview about the TV series, that were concerned with why he discreetly mentioned all that man-on-man business in the Independent a few months ago. Derren politely answered that it was a necessary evil: not really anyone's business, but if you don't do it then it becomes perceived as a secret. The Sun then printed this as if Derren had chosen to come out there and then to them, complete with 'Exclusive' across the top of the article. As if. Other papers then picked up on this, and suddenly it was new news.

So, yes, for those who thought it was a bit odd and tacky, it was."

it appears he had outed himself, not through a choice, some months ago. The Sun does it's dirty stuff...and we promote that!!

Nice.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/05/2008 21:29

Perhaps Derren made them do it by the power of his mind

Any publicity is good publicity.

I think he's proper weird TBH. But there you go.
