I imagine the house may be bought by a university, as a living specien for psychology students.

He doesn't sound 'insane' to me. Very rational, and didn't know when to stop.

and monsters only exist in myth btw.

edam · 09/05/2008 21:21

Duh, I know that Pan but if anyone comes close to the monster figure beloved of thriller writers, he does.

I don't think we should jump at the 'oh, I had a terrible childhood' excuse. Not clear it was that bad, anyway. And imprisoning and raping your daughter for 20 bloody years is not a natural consequence of having a dodgy dad.

Pan · 09/05/2008 21:27
Hmm
Quattrocento · 09/05/2008 22:34

Okay what I want to know is who stays with a man who has been convicted of rape?

beaniesteve · 10/05/2008 00:19

Some women do. It doesn't mean they know that he's going to lock people in cellars.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 10/05/2008 00:26

Women who are controlled, demeaned, disempowered... I guess...

stitch · 10/05/2008 00:37

i saw the interview of his wife's sister. and she was pretty adamant that he was such a control freak, her sister was completely terrified of him, and knew nothing of thes.

TinkerbellesMum · 10/05/2008 01:38

The scariest thing about that interview was how "normal" it sounded. He seemed so matter of fact about it like it happens every day.

His picture always creeps me out.

I personally think that if they are left homeless or liable for their treatment, there will be some philanthropist waiting to help them out or someone will promise to look after them in exchange for exclusive rights to their story - imagine it, a series of books from each's point of view.

egypt · 10/05/2008 02:48

There is no excuse for him. He knew it was wrong all the time or he would have been open about it during!

beaniesteve · 10/05/2008 16:30

I really realy really hope with all my heart that the only avenue they have isn't to write a book about their experiences to be able to live. Anyone who offers this kind of deal, knowing it's the only way they can survive financially is a bastard.

TinkerbellesMum · 11/05/2008 21:05

beaniesteve, I agree with you. Unfortunately tone doesn't come over here so it's probably not that obvious I meant it sarcastically. I hope that they are able to function without selling their rights, though I do fear it will happen.

I would like to know why they interviewed him at all... I sort of think he doesnt deserve to tell his side.
