Who else remembers when Alan Barnes, a disabled and disfigured pensioner was attacked? Enter Katie Cutler, dubbed the 'Angel of the North' (a pretty beautician) who publicly raised thousands of pounds for him to move house. She got involved with a PR company and was out of pocket by £7k. Alan was then turned into a figure of hate for not bailing her out. Recently the story has been updated as the incident was 10 years ago.
The comments on Facebook and the comments on Daily Mail comments are disgusting and cruel. Often calling him selfish whilst mocking his height and appearance.
I always wondered what her motives were. Especially as people are nowadays more cynical of other 'kind' people on local Facebook pages. Also not forgetting Captain Toml

I think the life of a philanthropist is a desirable one. However, the majority of us will never have the wealth to live that way. Her desire to raise money, help people, and yes, likely raise her own profile, is not unusual.

It was perhaps fool hardy of her. However, I think he should have helped her out.

Apparently he did offer to pay but the PR company refused because they thought he was being coerced
