Change it back to B

It is not as harmless as it is made out to be and I have friends whos lives have been ruined because of it. I also have friends that have been heavy smokers for over 10 years and they are fine.

You can never tell, but it should not be on the same level as anti-dep at all.

southeastastra · 07/05/2008 17:34

they've changed it anyway to B today

zippitippitoes · 07/05/2008 17:35

yes i posted because they are changing it..against advice

Was there a Joint Commission on this?

southeastastra · 07/05/2008 17:38
Grin
southeastastra · 07/05/2008 17:45

i do think they should keep it at c. doesn't make sense to keep changing it around.

i'm more worried about alcohol tbh and kids are drinking way to excess now.

zippitippitoes · 07/05/2008 17:51

not sure if it was a joint commission

but there haver been reports/reviews etc

and the government seems to go against those findings

i do know people who have schizophrenia very likely from teenage cannabis use

or a genetic tendency which has been developed by cannabis use

In reclassifying cannabis, the government actually went against the most recent advice of its own scientific advisors (the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs) which said moving cannabis from class C to class B "is neither warranted, nor will it achieve its desired effect" and that "the evidence of a substantial link with mental illness remains weak". This also agrees with reports by independent experts on the use of cannabis, some of which was discussed in the BBC 3 documentary on cannabis last week (available on i-player here.

aDad · 08/05/2008 10:20

Should have left it as C.

The reclassification isn't going to change a thing is it? Kids will still smoke it if they're going to smoke it. I don't think it is going to deter anyone if that is their intention.

JT · 08/05/2008 10:30

does it make a difference to the user?

do they think, 'hey hang on a minute, this is a Class B, I'd better not' ?

I doubt it.

witchandchips · 08/05/2008 10:31

why don't they just make the sentence proportional to the THC content of seized stash. At the mo penalties for skunk (possible link with pyschosis, but stronger effect) are same as for the weaker old fashioned leb i used to smoke when young (but not inhale ) Dealers and users will obviously go for the stronger stuff as risk per giggle ratio is lower. This biases the market towards the dangerous stuff

theBOD · 08/05/2008 11:57

as a frequent smoker myself it is very annoying. i really don't see the harm in me smoking a few joints a night.

VictorianSqualor · 08/05/2008 12:08

If cannabis is used in the same way many of us alcohol , i.e a few spliffs/glasses of wine during free time to relax then I don't see the problem with it, my issue would be that many people I know who smoke cannabis smke it like cigarettes, continuously throughout the day, I knwo I did when I was at my worst with it, I also never felt stoned so would carry on as if normal, thank the lord I don't drive.

As for the policing of this, does it now mean they have to do more than just remove and destroy the drug? If it does I think it's a waste of police time.

flubdub · 15/05/2008 16:10

I think it should have been changed, yes, but it wont deter people from smking it.
My dp smokes it everyday. He has since he was 13 - hes 28. He used to smoke it like fags, all day. That was before I got with him. Now its one joint a night, when all the kids are in bed, and he smokes it outside it the garage.
I hate it.
Its unsociable
It makes him stink
It is the only reason his friends see each other
And Im pretty sure its a contributing factor to his forgetfulness and "lack of common sense" if you know what I mean.
It upsets me that he smokes it, he loves it, and will never stop. I tried to make him stop once and he just went to his friends every night to smoke it instead.
Tbh, I cant actually say that Id always come before the weed, when his friends come round at all hours, and he just buggers off outside with them, and it upsets me to think like that.
Im not sure that it causes schizophrenia (sp?) but Im fairly sure it affects the brain in other ways, forgetfulness, etc.
Its a horrible drug, that unfortunately (I think) get used too much without people knowing what it is capable of, and enough research being put into it.
