Boris Johnson.
How the feck did that happen??

Hoping the BBC are just joshing with us...

Would you really like there to be an anti-immigration bias at the BBC? If the BBC constantly presented anti-immigration viewpoints without attempting to balance them, that would be pretty inflammatory and irresponsible, surely?

Do you ever listen to the phone-ins on Radio 5? They are white van man personified - very, very few Guardian-reader viewpoints get expressed.

JeremyVile · 03/05/2008 16:44

Have you ever heard the phone-ins on TalkSport? Eeeeeeek. George Galloway seems to attract an extraordinary amount of bigots who want to out-argue him. They never do.
I feel like I'm not supposed to like him, but I do. I might even love him a bit.

OP posts:
Swedes · 03/05/2008 16:49

I'm not saying Mumsnet should be balanced. I'm just wondering why it isn't at all balanced. I suspect they think it's bad manners to post their honest opinions on Ken Livingstone in much the same way as an atheist might think it was pointless posting their opinions on a Creationist Christians' thread.

Labour supporters are loud.

policywonk · 03/05/2008 16:55

Sorry Swedes I didn't mean you - EffiePerrine complained about the lack of balance further down.

I just think that Tories are out-numbered on here; if you weren't, you'd all be arguing fiercely with us whenever political topics come up. The fact that you aren't suggests to me that there just aren't enough of you to form a critical mass, and arguing as a lone wolf on a thread on which everyone else disagrees with you is no fun.

BTW I ain't a Labour supporter, I just like Ken.

Not sure I can go for Galloway JV, but he's a great debater.

policywonk · 03/05/2008 16:56

JV, will this be your first 1000-post OP thread? Do you get some sort of certificate?

FairyMum · 03/05/2008 16:58

Or perhaps its easier to run away from a thread than answering questions like what BJ's polices actually are?

CombustibleLemon · 03/05/2008 17:03

I voted for Ken and Peter Tatchell on the same card once. I've also voted Green, Labour and Lib Dem.

I'm not Labour. I'm fickle.

Swedes · 03/05/2008 17:03

Policyw - Arguing fiercely is the job of the opposition.

JeremyVile · 03/05/2008 17:05

Yes, PW.

You could say that I'm the Mayor of this vast, multi-cultural, beautiful, generous and big-hearted thread.

In the interests of topicality, I will now waggle my ears while farting AAAALLLLLLLLL over the gaff.

OP posts:
policywonk · 03/05/2008 17:05

Tories are still in Opposition, y'know

Almost certainly not for much longer, admittedly.

Oooh, I LOVE Peter Tatchell. He is one brave man.

policywonk · 03/05/2008 17:07

LOL. 'Waggling ears and farting' was great

CombustibleLemon · 03/05/2008 17:10

You can waggle your ears.

JeremyVile · 03/05/2008 17:19

I cannot lie. I actually can't waggle my ears, but my farting could turn you just as green! (B'dumTish)

CombustibleLemon · 03/05/2008 17:23

I think you'll find I'm prepared

seeker · 03/05/2008 17:32

I've been on a couple of Radio 5 phone ins. I think I was their token Guardian reader - they have to have one every 6 months or so to show that they are balanced!

seeker · 03/05/2008 17:33

Has it been established what BJ stands for - apart from bringing back Routemaster busses?

chefswife · 03/05/2008 17:54

I am quite shocked that Boris won. He is truly an ass. In any of the debates, he doesn?t have much of a debate but regurgitations from his point form list. Ken has had his day. He should not have run this election. He may have done some good things, but bad things, particularly ill-thought statements, are what sticks in peoples minds. They may have won if he didn?t. I think most people voted for Boris because he is perhaps perceived as the lesser of two evils. The BNP thing is surprising too. WTF. I can understand stopping immigration for a while to get the situation under control but really, this group is not going to be good for London or the UK on the world scene. I have to admit? I didn?t vote. Leaving the country next month. Love London but tired of it tbh. Vancouver Island way better. Good luck with the Mayor? I?d like to make a vague prediction? the scandal of all political scandals will happen during BJ?s term.

A side note? Boris and bus fetish. We have double deckers and bendybuses in Vancouver and Victoria but have never had the same issues as here.

JeremyVile · 03/05/2008 17:57

Well, Seeker. He says that he will make buses safer by removing free travel from youths who are anti-social.

Great idea. How on earth did Ken not think of it

Arse.

Ken Livingstone got 50% more votes than he did in either of his previous two mayoral elections.

Is the BBC pro-immigration? How exactly?

But you think the BBC is broadly left-liberal ? I don't understand why. Is it the news coverage? I have always thought the BBC news is very very good and has an excellent reputation around the world.

CombustibleLemon · 03/05/2008 18:38

'Tis my favourite housedress Jeremy. Cath Kidson eat your heart out.

If you make the buses safer by removing the anti-social youths wouldn't they all walk? That would make the streets less safe. Unless we gave them all bicycles? But then the cycle lanes would be dangerous...

Mercy · 03/05/2008 18:51

Tfl already remove free bus passes from young people who commit anti-social behaviour.

The problem is that many of the pickpockets etc don't have free bus passes in the first place.
