"Possessions and clothes belonging to Jay Slater were found alongside the body discovered by Spanish authorities, a missing persons organisation has said.

"It is understood the body was also found close to the site of the last location of the 19-year-old's mobile phone."

More links on the page. Looks like he stumbled around, fell, and that was it. No conspiracies, no international drug cartels, no kidnapping. Just a sleep-deprived, hungover and brain-addled city kid with no clue 😢

Jay Slater latest: Teenager 'could have suffered accident' as body found in Tenerife

Search teams in Spain have found human remains in the area Jay Slater went missing, Sky News has been told - with early investigations pointing to an accident or fall in an "inaccessible area" in the village of Masca.

If, as seems likely from some reports, he fell into a steep chasm, then dogs would not necessarily pick up the scent in any useful way. They might have had some idea roughly where he might have fallen, but depending on landscape it might not be precise enough. And specialist teams/equipment might be needed to get down difficult ravines. Drones can't see through vegetation and might not be able to get into chasms that have lots growing at the top.

I think they mentioned clothes/possessions being with the body to show why they believe it's him. They'll need dental records or DNA to confirm identity formally. As he'll be on the UK DNA database because he had a previous conviction here, they might be able to match that way (rather than needing to test parents for familial match)

Possessions and clothes found "alongside the body" sounds kind of odd.

It's because the press can't report that it's his body until the police say that they can. They can report that a body was found with items that can be confirmed as being his because that's not the same as confirming that it is his body (though it would take a really weird and elaborate conspiracy theory to find a story which would fit the corpse of a different individual being found under these circumstances)

There was a similar time of obfustication shortly before Michael Mosely's death was confirmed. My (autistic) DC misunderstood the sideways-language which was that people searching for Michael Mosely had found "a body" - DC thought that they meant they had found a different body, of someone else, because obviously if you are searching for Michael Mosely and you find Michael Mosely's body you say so. However, there are formal admin things to go through before the identity of any discovered dead body is confirmed publicly.

Yes it was just the wording I found odd - clothing alongside rather than on the body.

May he RIP 🙏 🩵 I just wonder what spooked him, it has been repeatedly reported that something had spooked him at the B&B and that's why he left in a hurry. Also did this have anything to do with his death.

That was Mark the amateur detective, wasn't it? I followed up every single headline stating he 'revealed the real reason Jay wanted to get away' from the house.

It was because ... <suspenseful music> ... he was hungry. The bloke offered to drive him back but needed a couple of hours kip first. Jay wasn't hanging about, he seemed to be under the impression he could leg it back in no time. He spoke to his friend Bradley, who told him how far it was and said to get a taxi. Bradley saw and heard Jay stumble, then the phone died.

The kid was 19, he'd had less than two hours sleep after a full day and night of drink & (probably) drugs, clearly wasn't thinking straight and had zero experience of hiking in mountainous terrain.

I see Mark The Detective is now 'revealing' why that terrain is so treacherous, so even he's abandoned the weird hints at shady dealings.

Possessions alongside the body, fine. Clothes ON the body, surely?

Depends what they mean exactly - translations are not always exact. could be referring to sunglasses/hat etc. Possesions may have fallen out of his pockets during the fall. Shoes may have fallen off. He might have taken off his shirt etc Also a body out for weeks may have been disturbed by wildlife who have dragged away some clothing.

He lives just around the corner from me and went to my daughters school. I hope his family can now find some peace and the fuckwits on the internet that have been spouting a load of shite and coming up with all sorts of weird conspiracy theories are pleased with themselves. I lost my 22 year old son in an accident in 2022 and I dread to think what the general public would have said about my reaction and behaviour in the following weeks if I had been all over the news. I was laughing and joking and you would have thought I was over the bloody moon but I guess I was in deep shock and just couldn't bring myself to face up to the fact that I had lost the light of my life, my first born and a part of me died that day. Pisses me off when I see people saying "if that was my child I would be sobbing constantly and not be able to do anything" I thought that too but the reality is very different when you are in that situation

He was found in just shorts and shirt no socks or shoes
