How bad to do this and when you would think the nurses are trust worthy! www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13501539/amp/Dishonest-nurse-faked-time-sheets-fraudulently-claim-26-000-wages-77-shifts-struck-off.html

I don't think it's kicking the NHS. The NHS employs 1.3 million people including 370,000 nurses. Statistically it is not a surprise that a small minority are dishonest. Although this one must be dim as well as greedy to have claimed so extravagantly in a short time period.

The important thing is she was caught and has been punished.

Given the vast number of people who are employed by the NHS its inevitable that some of them will be dishonest. Actually, it's inevitable that you'll get representatives of all the sins and vices that humanity is prey to. After all Harold Shipman, the UKs most prolific serial killer, was employed by the NHS. They can't all be angels, some will have horns.

What kind of payroll department wasn't checking timesheets against the rota?

As an NHS employee & previous hospital worker, we would have to justify every hour on our overtime claims. This was often an issue when the Ward Manager or NIC asked you to stay over for a few hours whilst cover was found but forgot to amend the online rota.

Or was it her agency just paying her regardless? Although surely they would know what shifts they had booked her for.

How silly. I'm sure this will follow her around now. "The Nursing and Midwifery Council’s disciplinary committee said Del-Greco’s ‘actions were dishonest from the outset’ and that she had ‘abused her position of trust’."

She’s just a common thief, “kicking the NHS” doesn’t come into it.

If you want to see how the government is kicking the NHS, read this part of your link:

”The NMC report added that if the fraud had not been spotted, the trust would have lost £31,577.31, working on average of just over £410 per shift charged by the agency.”

£410 per shift

Let that sink in. There’s a place flexible bank staff, both from the NHS wanting that and the agency worker.

But a system where that’s costing £410 (mostly into the pocket of the agency) is disgraceful.

Totally agree with that; day light robbery. But let's not move away from this delightful person who has decided to steal £26k in four months and when you read the report by the medical council; didn't see any wrong doing or remorse for her wrong doing as well as being a liar!

I've dealt with invoices for bank staff when I temped for Chelsea and Westminster. That figure will also include tax and NI which the agency handles as the nurse's employer, as well as the agency fee.
