the way the OP is written is deliberately provocative as well as vague. Plus he/she has not been back to respond, which of course is the way of the troll.

I think there should be studies on the effects of lager and malt whisky on sperm

are there any? NO THERE FECKING AREN'T

Heathcliffscathy · 23/03/2008 18:58

too right. smoking prospective fathers: you are scum. you are knowingly damaging your future child. how could you you bastards.

see how that would go down in the telegraph tomorrow. not.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 18:58

The way this and the American culture demonise alcohol is part of the reason why both have such a massive amounts of problem drinking/drinkers in their societies.

Heathcliffscathy · 23/03/2008 18:59

[swig, puff, snort, shag]

Heathcliffscathy · 23/03/2008 19:01

it makes me want to stuff a pillow up my jumper and wander around with a crack pipe.

i know it's unreasonable but this sort of thing incenses me.

donnie · 23/03/2008 19:01

I just think that this so called 'report' will make any mother who has a child with autism feel like shite if they ever dared to have a drink while they were pg.

fio, pass the duchy on the left hand side .

Heathcliffscathy · 23/03/2008 19:03

the underlying message is 'women, you are thick, you do not understand that you should take care of yourselves during pregnancy. therefore here are some very simple to understand, so that you can understand them you simple creature, rules: don't drink, don't eat most things, lie in bed, don't feel unhappy or stressed by anything, don't use a PC, don't work, and ffs don't do anything that makes you feel good as you cannot trust your body and your mind...well, less said better'

OH AND EXPAT NAOMI KLEIN IS GREAT ON THIS

sorry for shouting.

expatkat · 23/03/2008 19:04

I'm open-minded, and believe in proper scientific reasearch, and I don't disbelief/discounting anything until its proven wrong--but this sounds like the biggest load of guilt-inducing tosh I've heard in a LONG time.

Hell--mothers drank while pregnant way more in 1970s. many even smoked while pregnant. So why have autism rates gone up since then?

Heathcliffscathy · 23/03/2008 19:04

fio you're on fire today.

Blandmum · 23/03/2008 19:04

Oh ffs, they were looking at mothers who had drunk enough alcohol to give their children FAS. Given that this condition has a major impact on the development on the brain it would be more newsworthy if the children thus affected didn't have some autistic traits

This is amost akin to saying that drinking water causes drowning. Large amounts of water cause drowning, thus small anmounts of water must also cause drowning.

Utter arse

Heathcliffscathy · 23/03/2008 19:05

pmsl. newsshock. five pints of vodka a day whilst pregnant damages your baby.

no shit sherlock.

sorry, two 'thus's in one post.

Which was probably two too many

Put it down to the wine I have imbibed while having my wonderful supper of roast lamb.

Which obviously puts me in the same camp as women who down a bottle of Jack Daniels in one sitting

(ps i'm not up the duff)
