SAY NO TO CONTACTPOINT-LETS PROTECT OUR CHILDREN-SIGN PETITION plz

Ok, not sure if anyone has heard about contactpoint. It has been rolled out on trial in various places across the uk but now it is to be implemented in some areas as soon as the end of april.

The LA will be holding our children on database till they are 18, this is to enable more effective multi-agaency working and to identify kids who need extra services.

children will go on the database at birth and children that are now under 18 will be put straight on from info gathered from schools, doctors YOT's, CAFCAS, CBA and others to build a "picture" of that young person.

I am seriously concerned about this. There has been NO public consultation and NO consent from exsisting parents.

How are we supposed to trust the goverment with our childrens details of their lives when in the last 2 yrs there have been several HUGE security breaches and information has been "lost".

I am concerned that the goverment has kept this scheme under wraps and that everyone I ask has never heard about it. As far as im aware the only people who have some extensive knowledge about it are social services.

PLEASE PLEASE sign the petition and get this stopped, or at the very least temporarily halted.

IT doesn't bother me...i have nothing to hide a nd having all information together may help in cases of child abuse. i am sure others will disagree

Signed. It bothers me hugely, and I don't believe that it will make the slightest difference in child abuse cases. Having nothing to hide is not the point.
(I also don't think that online petitions make the slightest difference - this will go ahead regrdless as GB et couldn't give a shite what the electorate thinks, we will be better off lobbying opposition MP's and then voting out Labour at the next election).

I have nothing to hide and can't understand why people are against things like this or the DNA database - would help catch criminals sooner IMO

I totally support this scheme. There have been too many tragedies that could have been averted if information has been shared. In fact I think this whole scheme was designed after the report into the death of Victoria Climbié when Lord Laming concluded that her murder could have been prevented by better communication between professionals.

I'd be one of the first to join a DNA database or put my children on one so I can't sign it sorry.
The only time people should need to worry about this is if they have something to hide.

There have been too many cases where children were seen by numerous agencies that didn't consult each other only to miss really severe abuse.

How can something that will prevent that be so bad?

Also even if the information is 'lost' what exactly can be done with it?

So are you ok about id cards then?

this scheme has the potential to be the start of national id cards-if no consent has been given for this, no consent is going to be got to turn it from database to id cards, all the information they need will be there already, they will just have to produce id cards to go along with the database.

I dont have anything to hide either- in fact I would probably be expected to use contact point within my role as a HCP.

I think if you happy with it just becuase youve got nothing to hide you might want to read abit more about it.

As a HCP the other thing that seriously concerns me is accountability- lets look at
Victoria Crimby, the investigation into her death was horrific-ive read it. and the main point about the investigation was that nobody wanted to take responsibilty- so
if many agancies will be using the database, it brings up the question of accountability. If things go wrong, who will be accountable???

I'd be happy with ID cards yes, We have to ahve photo ID with most things anyway.

If we knew who people were then I honestly believe our children would be safer.
How many people have changed their names and gone to work in places with vulnerable people?

Wouldn't really happen with ID cards. Also anyone that thinks the government couldn't trace every little bit of info about us within minutes if they want to are rather mistaken.

The only difference is atm it's held by different agencies.

I don't care about ID cards either - don't see what the big issue is with them - would be same as having to carry driving license IMO.

Other countries have ID cards why are the British so against it?

Possibly because they are being secretive about it so that once people do find out, its too late and its already been rolled out in their area.

It wrong wrong wrong and I personally believe that it will put many children at possible risk from the system being abused or failing.

Student Madwife - the Government do not control the press. If the news media are not covering this then blame them not the Government.

This Government website shows the Gov have put the information out there. Its not a secret conspiracy.

Because what's happening in Iraq and with the global credit crunch is a bit more at the forefront at the mo.

I would like to see all hospitals insist on being able to tale a sample of your DNA to go on a database and to be able to take a photo of you before you are treated - would most certainly make some people think twice about breaking the law.

It's wrong that they have kept it all "hush, hush" and not kept parents informed. It could be a good idea though, but communication is the key.

hahahaha why? becuase the goverment are proposing completely different id card schemes in this contary than abroad, thats why-

Along with the id cards will be DNA samples, *these will be collected from people and taken from babies at birth

*they will keep the DNA on file for 100 yrs

*Although rare there are DNA matches between people

  • The DNA has to be read- the reading relies on the anylst reading it correctly to provide an accurate DNA profile

  • the current DNA database holds 4million profiles, if that is then expected to hold 70+million DNA the probability of mistakes being made at any point in the process is extremely high

and lastly and more inportantly-

You carry others dna on you, when you shake hands the other persons DNA passes onto your hand, the person you shook hands with you could then rob a bank or murder someone and your DNA would be there, even though you had nothing to do with it.

Anyhow, back to contact point, plz sign it,
but you agree with it dont sign it. simple!

Well, all that is pretty simple when taken to a court of law isn't it really?
The police already have tons of peoples fingerprints/DNA on file, they get a match, go and pick up the person it matches with and then take a new sample so if the one on file is messed up it will be discovered PDQ.

No need to laugh your way through your conspiracy theory either dear.

I think you need just a leetle bit more DNA than that to prove you robbed a bank
