I'm a feminist too then.

Very strange

OrangeKnickers · 17/03/2008 13:59

but isn't KP a good role model - she was the "victim" ie topless model and therefore an interchangeable blonde but now is worth 30mil on her own terms (as far as I can see).

I would call myself a feminist but don't disapprove of her.

GermaineSneer · 17/03/2008 14:00

being wirth money does not make you an icon

MamaG · 17/03/2008 14:02

this explains a lot IMO

EricL · 17/03/2008 14:02

But conversely - shouldn't women also celebrate other women who have achieved success without simply falling out of clubs exposing as much flesh as poss and acting like a simpleton?

I am confused how anyone would see her as a role model for modern women.

Kewcumber · 17/03/2008 14:06

I assumed the "cod is a hardcore feminist" was secret code to separate real MN'ers from wannabe ones when you meet them in the street.

"that cod she's such a feminist ins;t she", KC runs a mile from obviously wierdy fake MN'er.

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 14:06

Being a 'hardcore feminist' is great. Welcome! We get the hardcore fem thing thrown at us as an insult whenever we dare to point out things like getting your tits out for money/aspiring to marry a footballer and have weekly spray tans/fucking random blokes on TV in the BB house etc etc are..well...RUBBISH. It's ok, though. I love being called a feminist. I take it as a huge compliment :-)

OrangeKnickers · 17/03/2008 14:06

I don't think she's an icon, I think she is a good role model, she has her own company etc etc. She doesn't just fall out of nightclubs, although that has played a part.

I mean she has taken on a men's business and made money from it.

And it's not evil to make money, so I think she has done well.

GermaineSneer · 17/03/2008 16:02

oh no, am odl enough to see it as a compliment
spec when undercover wearing full on make up

SixSpotBurnet · 17/03/2008 16:07

Is disapproving of any individual woman compatible with hardcore feminism? What happened to sisters under the skin and all that?

GermaineSneer · 17/03/2008 16:12

i hink we all agreed that was shit

you werent at teh emeeitn so we slagged you off

cmotdibbler · 17/03/2008 16:13

MrsMattie - i'm with you there. My best mug has the Rebecca West quote on it 'the only time that people call me a feminist is when I say something that differentiates me from a doormat'.

And I don't like Jordan, but I think do suspect that Katie Price is someone who has carefully invented a persona for public consumption and manages her own business affairs and money very carefully.

GermaineSneer · 17/03/2008 16:15

i odnt hitnk there is so much intelligent plannign in it

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 17:24

Oh I have nothing personally against Jordan. My DH knows her very well (errr...not like that ) and says she is a nice girl. I hate criticising other women's choices, but when whole swathes of young girls are growing up aspiring to be on reality TV, look like Jordan and maybe, if they're really lucky, marry a footballer and be a 'celebrity' I find it worrying, and must say so. And I do think that's happening. That whole superficial sleb culture is so dominant these days, and women are the ones who lose out because of it.

Sort of agree@dittany - but we all have to take responsibility for our own actions. Eastern European 'human traffic' forced into prostitution by evil bastards = victims. Woman who earns millions off the back of the size of her tits and pics of her kids - NOT.

there is no way you would be classified as a hardened feminist in my book

too interested in make - up to focus on the hard stuff

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 18:05

pmsl@PaulaYatesBiggestfan!

Yes I agree that the sex industry (and the agenda of the media in this country) is driven by men@dittany. I'm not singling Jordan out, I just refuse to pat strippers and page 3 girls on the back and say 'There, there - it's not your fault, love. You are an innocent victim' (although they are actually more honest, at least, than these vacuous reality TV idiots who would sell their soul nevermind their tits for a magazine spread).

My point is:

A male dominated world in which women are exploited and seen as sex objects is the main problem. But there is nothing admirable about getting your tits out for the lads, no matter how many millions you make out of it. I won't condemn Jordan, but I certainly won't congratulate her.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 17/03/2008 18:14

hear hear mrs mattie

she may not be a victim of a patriarchy but thousands who do the same think for buttons are
