Just watched this on bbc news.

However why - WHY - did the BBC see the need to broadcast the recording of the young girl (who called the police to report the attack) shrieking and crying in panic down the phone to the 999 operator. Why? What's the bloody point. That has made me just as angry as the story of this poor young girl's murder.

It just seemed exploitative and put on the news for shock value - it's not required, this story is shocking enough.

Unbelievable shocking and horrible story. My 20 year old stepson is emo and gets a bit of stick from gangs of lads etc, which upsets him. Who would ever imagine that something like this would happen.

It's awful! Poor girl, just for the way she dressed.
When I was 17 a big group of girls started on me and my friends, just because my friend was a "mosher." One of my friends got attacked and I ended up being punched in the face.

Oh God, can I join in? I just listened to this and it just sickened me. I just felt this overwhelming sense of fear for my child, she's only 8 so it's totally irrational but just brought home fears fof the future as she will most likely be "different"!

SOme friends and relatives of the dead girl have started a campaign against this sort of stupid prejudice. Sorry I don't have a link but there was a big article on this awful case in Chronicles, a fanzine for alternative/goth people.

I also think the BBC are being a bit weird describing her as "dressing as a goth". Surely she would have said she was a goth. It makes it sound like fancy dress.
