I was a total goth in the eighties Incredible to think that some one would attack you for how you dress, but then people attack because of the colour of your skin, or your accent is wrong, or a huge number of reasons

Christ.
I've tears in my eyes reading that.

How horrific

TotalChaos · 13/03/2008 10:40

It's horrendous.

BandofMothers · 13/03/2008 10:41

I can't believe his friends looked on laughing and encouraging.

The world is quite a freaky place and this kind of thing makes me want to lock my children away til they're 30

3littlefrogs · 13/03/2008 10:47

These thugs place no value at all on human life. This sort of thing happens ALL the time, it only hits the news when the victim is killed.

My own ds - aged 16 - was beaten and kicked by a gang, just because of the school he attended (a local comprehensive). He had a huge boot print across the side of his face. No attempt is made to find the perpetrators unless the victim is killed.

They know they can get away with it until they kill someone. These people should forfeit all their rights the minute it is proved that they have broken the law, and there should be mandatory custodial sentences for violent crime.

At the moment there is absolutely no deterrent.

Hulababy · 13/03/2008 10:49

Horrific

Sadly anything these days can be used as a reason to attack someone. Seems some people are hell bent on assaulting others regardless of anything.

We have had some really lengthy sentences handed out recently for such violent attacks. I hope the same can be applied here.

southeastastra · 13/03/2008 10:56

they could stop selling alcohol to under 18s for a start. as if.

horrific

2shoes · 13/03/2008 11:32

i also think they need to lower the age limit so that a 15 year old gets treated as adult sentance wise.

how do 15 year olds become like this? what on earth made them think of doing something like this? I just despair. No words to express what that girl went through.

3littlefrogs · 13/03/2008 16:02

They become like this because nobody stops them. Nobody has taught them any respect or values. They know that 99% of the time they will get away with it because the police and society do nothing. Nobody sets any boundaries, other than when someone is actually killed. I may sound bitter and cynical, and my heart breaks for the parents of the two victims. But, my own children have been assaulted and beaten and robbed at knife point enough times that I know how it can easily happen. These people just don't care.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 13/03/2008 16:14

Ive had enough of this shit.

Fucking do gooders worried about poor little johnny going to borstal.

Their parents should be lynched too.

I KNOW FOR A FACT my kids would never do anything as sick as this.

Fucking wanky useless government.

Why cant SS interact with the parents and show them why their behaviour is so bad?

Im not sure taking away is such an easy option, but can see where you are coming from.

lou33 · 13/03/2008 16:36

that's actually left me feeling physically sick

theUrbanDryad · 13/03/2008 16:42

SS aren't given enough powers - and the powers they do have aren't used in the right ways. no-one's very interested in helping a 14 year old boy get placed in a good adoptive home, because he's not a cute baby or toddler (which is the age group mostly removed by SS) the 14 year old will be shoved from pillar to post from foster home to care home and become bitter and resentful and even more likely to commit a crime.

i know there are MNers who have posted on here about their tearaway teens, and they have begged SS to help but they won't.

and i think a lot of it is a cycle of cruelty, a lack of boundaries, a lack of love. but how do we change that?

so for her parents.

hifi · 13/03/2008 16:57

when speaking to sw about level of care for children she said there were different levels for different people, for example what most mums think of as basic care, clean , well fed, stimulated children doesnt apply to all, for example a drug addicted or alcoholic mother. she said it had been estimated that if all children who should be taken from adults were, there would be a least another 250,000 in care. where would they put them?
it astounds me the amount of people who call their daughters "bitch", i hear it all the time.

2shoes · 13/03/2008 16:58

MoreSpamThanGlam couldn't agree with you more. ds was horrified by this.

it is really very shocking

as has already been said: what sort of life have these teens had that their entertainment consists of beating somoeone to death?

this sort of violence does not seem to be getting better or disappearing, in fact, it is getting worse with succesive generations

don;t know what the answer is, but my heart goes out to the parents of the murdered girl and her partner.
