I am so angry for this poor young soldier and her family. She was only 19 when she too her own life after relentless sexual harassment in the British Army.

”The Army investigation found her boss, who, like everyone in the report, is not named, wanted a relationship with her but she had a boyfriend and did not reciprocate his feelings.
It describes how in October 2021 her boss sent her more than 1,000 WhatsApp messages and voicemails. The following month this increased to more than 3,500.”

She had already suffered a sexual assault at the hands of another male soldier, who was merely asked to write her a letter of apology. Then she was relentlessly harassed by her boss.

Poor, poor kid. When will this all end?

Why not name him? Why are they protecting these men when they threw out a surgeon who dared to say humans can’t change sex?

there needs to be criminal convictions, and a few sackings (no pension).

This is so outrageous. A friend of DB’s killed himself this year at an Army base where the man in charge puts diary markers in his public diary about people’s mental health. Actually naming them and making assumptions IN HIS DIARY! The whole organisation is rotten.

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 04/10/2023 17:00

I've just read about this. Frankly its scandalous and I think the people involved should be named. 3500 unwanted messages from your line manager. Shocking. She was 19. Her poor family.

LaMadameCholet · 04/10/2023 17:07

At the peak of the harassment he must have been sending her 10 messages an hour, during the day. I can’t imagine what that must have done to her state of mind. It must have been torture.

Absolutely horrified !!! I read the story and wrote to my local MP. I cannot believe he is not named - simply on the basis of the number of texts that he sent and the fact that there was a power imbalance he should have faced clear consequences.
As a mother I am so angry - really feel for her family. She was totally let down by the army? They ought to feel fucking ashamed of themselves.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 05/10/2023 17:57

I saw this on the news yesterday- her mother gave such a dignified interview .

It is so desperately sad - i hope he gets exactly what he deserves and the family get justice.

This is such an upsetting occurence and made me feel incredibly abgry. How can this be happening? Why are (some) men so fucking awful? She seemed like a brilliant young woman with everything ahead of her.

SerpentEndBench · 05/10/2023 18:04

It is disgusting. Poor Jaysley, bullied to death by an unnamed man, her boss. She was powerless to stop him and he chose not to stop. I note the previous assaulter, who wrote to apologise, added that 'his door was always open' for Jaysley. Very sinister and creepy.

This is a very murky case, plenty of wrongdoing, but also a lot of mis-reporting.

The individual who messaged her thousands of messages was actually a collegue not a line manager, who she was initially friendly with and who she had offered to support through a personal crisis of his own, hence the large number of messages as she was acting as his emotional support. This went on for a while before he misread their relationship and believed she liked him, his messages then became innapropriate, she reported it and it stopped.

Missed context around the other situations with her as well.

To be clear, this is not me excusing the warrant officer who sexually assaulted her, nor trying to make excuses for her death, however the Gunner Beck situation is a real eye opener in selective reporting of half the facts to create a very specfic narrative.

ColonelDax · 03/11/2025 16:04

Plenty of open source information around the facts of this case for those who choose to look.

Full inquiry is available open source. Lots of detail going completely unreported, including significant issues around the poor girls difficult family relationships and personal behaviours, as well as an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

I've served a long time in the Army and it has a long way to go to be perfect, but a lot of the criticisms being thrown at the Army in this case are (in my opinion) being done by the family to cover some pretty unpleasant home truths around the things that poor girl had to go through in her life.

victim blaming and making excuses for dreadful behaviour from soldiers in positions of authority which seems to come up again and again, and for covering up and ignoring what is going on. You should be ashamed for trying to blame her family.
