So if you clearly remember this from an incredible 27 years ago, then you're no spring chicken!

And the significance is ? Is it just an opportunity to wheedle out the oldies ?

ScienceTeacher · 24/02/2008 18:35

I remember it well

OH God what a travesty all round.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/02/2008 18:49

ndp - the significance is only how shocked I am at how fast the years have whizzed by. I spotted the 'on this day' article whilst reading online news and nearly had a seizure when I realised it's nearly 30 years ago.

LOL norksbride.

I wasn't born at that point, so I'm just that I can't join in the trot down memory lane

DeeRiguer · 24/02/2008 18:53

i remember actively avoiding the wedding and related tripe at my young age then
and laughing out loud at those collars ffs and her 'style'
load of shit then
load of shit now

nutcracker · 24/02/2008 18:55

When they actually got married, my mum dressed me head to toe in red, white and blue and took a pic of me standing in front of a poster of the happy couple which was in my mums front room window

Mercy · 24/02/2008 18:55

I can't believe it was 27 years ago

Was it really 27 years ago?

(I'll take an extremely large sherry and a comfy chair in the corner, so I can sit and wonder where all the years have gone!)

WideWebWitch · 24/02/2008 18:58

Oh my word, I remember it. NDP, you weren't born? MY, I'm old!

I have a hazy memory although that's more to do with disinterest in teh Royals than being too young

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2008 19:04

i remember my grandma and mother being horrified that she was so young, lots of disapproving 'sacrificial virgin' comments etc and i thought she was ANCIENT. she was only 19 or something, wasn't she? god, i can't believe her family let her go, in retrospect...

Slouchy · 24/02/2008 19:06

Those spotty frocks! And that haircut!

I was 9, remember the comm mug from school and the day off school. My dad was ever so about it, so I watched the whole show on the black and white portable with my granny and grandad.

DumbledoresGirl · 24/02/2008 19:08

Oh yes I remember the comment about being in love "whatever that means". I thought at the time that he was a stupid stuck up repressed man who could not express his feelings, but of course, I can see his reticence in a different light now.

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2008 19:13

another thing that caused my female relatives to purse their lips and predict doom, that comment...

We lived next to some Americans when the engagement was announced and omg, they went mad with ecstasy over it, as though they'd been witness to the actual event. They bought armloads of 'Royal' magazines to send over to rellies in the US. Barking, eh?

Slouchy · 24/02/2008 19:16

Do you think she was in love with him?
I know she was very young and idealistic etc (and not awfully bright) but she mustb have known this was a dynastic thing above all else. Surely?

tribpot · 24/02/2008 19:16

I remember it - also as a 9 year old. Had almost forgotten she was 19 at the time My Christ, a family you would not want to marry into until at the very least 29 in terms of being comfortable in your own self. I wonder what impertinence caused the Beeb reporter to even ask if they were in love - can you imagine nowadays?! Publicist would have you taken out back and shot - and that's just for a celeb, not a royal!
