It is encouraging in a way that she had spoken to her friends earlier about not going home - she could just be hiding somewhere.

apparently she had been spotted 24 hours later also by an adult, so they do think that she has ran away.

Unless its one of those 'adults' that pretends that they have seen them.

I think the same, Wendy. This isn't quite the same as a child who was snatched while walking home or playing in a park.

But that poor mother's face...

oh god i remember being of older primary school age and planning to run away from home (in a fit of pique after being told off for something I really oughtnt have done in the first place). I'd even once packed a rucksack, walked a couple of miles down the road and then came back again because I was bored

My parents were none-the-wiser.

I do hope she turns up soon. It's so cold and the longer she stays away the harder it gets to come back.

yes, what a terrible ordeal this must be for her family.
It has been so cold here the past few nights, and by all accounts she is very small for her age - so vulnerable

The spotting thing is strange though - if someone had really spotted her, why did they not go up and talk to her and take her to the police station?

I really hope the fact that she had talked of running away and possible sightings come to something, and help find her.

do you know what really annoys me? In the Daily Mail online today the story about this little girl has now disappeared BUT there is STILL a "non" story about Madeline MaCann on their website. Why?

Is it really because the MaCanns are rich and Shannon's family are poor - are people really that shallow? Really?

I just clicked your profile to see if you lived in the same area as Shannon and maybe that was why it's in your local news. It's disappeared off the news here in the West Midlands. I bet this story just disappears without a trace - I just feel so sad that a well off child gets all that press attention and a low income one doesn't.

The article re this child is still on the BBC's news website under the England section of their page.

Regardless of her status this is a nine year old girl who has gone missing. Someone knows what has happened to her.

She ran away/disappeared on the Tuesday evening and the witness saw her Wednesday morning -- it's entirely possible that they didn't know at that point that she was listed as missing and only came forward after they'd heard.

IIRC - THe adult spotted her in the morning (don't know under what circumsatances) but had no idea she was missing until they saw it later on the news - however she was 'spotted' the person was absolutely certain it was the same person when they saw her pic in the media

I am not that close but in the Yorkshire region, hence being on the news a lot. To be fair it is on the national news too. Sadly no more news updates this morning - still missing Apparently her brother has run away in the past so not totally unheard of in this girl's family - hope she is somewhere safe.

She is back on the BBC news home page but no more news.

Her father is quoted as saying she has said she wants to come and live with him - that may have something to do with it.

I also read yesterday that her older brother, who has run away in the past, has been promised a computer if he doesn't do it any more...

does make me that some missing children get more coverage than others. and found it just a bit that a well-known missing child always seems to be back in the headlines whenever another child goes missing .

If she has threatened to run away then where is she? Surely she would have turned up somewhere by now?

All the news reports I've seen seem to be alluding to the strong possibility that Shannon has run away and I guess this would result in a sort of non story for them. If she comes home safe and sound the news agencies will be expected to leave the family alone and give them a bit of privacy again. However if the worst happens then it will become a story.
Am I too cynical? I might be.

I do hope she is staying in someones shed and gets hungry enough to go home soon but the longer this goes on the less likely it seems. Surely at 9 she is too young to become a Missing Person?

Her poor mother looks like she hasn't slept in a month.

when holly and jessica went missing though there was a report the next day from someone who said she'd seen them.

Why have no businessmen put up rewards for this girl's safe return
