I hate Tesco since they failed to find our hoilday cottage and left me and my 13 friends with no food, no tea, coffee, no nappies for dd and NO WINE on the first night of our holiday. And then the next day claimed they couldn't get to the cottage so we had to drive and meet them.

Their customer service is crap, they couldn't have cared less when I complained.

lailasmum · 11/02/2008 19:14

hmm between those two tesco. But then our closest asda is a bit odd and I don't like it so don't have anything else to compare it to. Anything would be better than the morrisons we have which is dire in every way.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 11/02/2008 19:27

I like both. The fruit and veg is much better quality thant Waitrose, which is our local shop but which drives me insane - at least the aisles in Asda are wide enough to accommodat ethe shoppers, and u can pick up a perfectly good dress for a fiver

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 11/02/2008 20:07

Tesco.

I prefer their clothes. Asda near me always has terrible queues at the checkout too many people in the shop.

Also according to www.mysupermarket.co.uk Tesco is cheaper for the food that I buy. And Tesco do really nice pizzas.

Wilkie · 11/02/2008 20:08

Prefer Tesco choice but hate the monopoly they have on EVERYTHING so would prob vote Asda for policital reasons

Flamesparrow · 11/02/2008 20:13

Asda - they will give vouchers for clothes, tesco make you do a straight swap which is crap oif they have nothin gin you like.

@ Surfer being left with no wine!! You must have been rocking in a corner!! (Or did you have a hip flask?)

Tesco do have cheeseballs though...

DiscoDizzy · 11/02/2008 20:20

We have a tesco already and there has been a big hoo har for years over which one's going to get the big site thats to be redeveloped. Tesco won though. We could've done with an Asda though as there's Tesco Extra 10 mins away whereas Asda is 60 mins away.

bogwobbit · 11/02/2008 20:26

Think they are both equally objectionable. Tesco's because they are determined to take over the world and put every other shop in the area out of business, not to mention screw their suppliers both in this country and the third world and Asda for much the same reasons, plus I had a massive run in with the woman at their customer Services desk in Grangemouth who refused to take back a pair of pyjamas (never worn, still on the hanger with label on) because they had come from a different store and 'weren't on her system'. I'm still fuming
And no,I don't think Asda's customer services are fab.

lyrasdaemon · 11/02/2008 21:39

I hate them both.

Where I live, supermarkets have taken over, and a large part of the town centre is full of booze joints with their associated drunken customers. The local indoor market tries its best to provide the multinationals with some competition, but it's struggling. It really is sad what has happened around here.

PTA · 11/02/2008 21:49

Used to be a Tesco devotee but will now drive by to go to Asda.

Organic ranges in Asda are good, their fresh fruit and veg is getting better and you can get free range chickens and eggs. Clothes ranges are much better at Asda for children and me and overall is cheaper than Tesco.

However, both large multi-nationals and you don't get that way by being nice and cuddly.

LyraSilvertongue · 11/02/2008 21:51

The Asda near us has very little organic food so I tend not to shop there.
Our Tesco is massive and always packed to the gills so I shop at Sainsbury's.

AllieBongo · 11/02/2008 22:14

they are on my hitlist cod, along with tesco's and also most branches of tk maxx. i'd much rather go to waitrose, but i'm far too poor

havalina · 11/02/2008 22:58

Whenever I walk in to a Tesco my stress levels shoot through the roof and after about 5 minutes I'm a snappy harridan. By the end of the shop I want to stab Dp, usually for malingering around the spice aisle when I just want to get OUT!! God knows why this only happens in tesco, must be the lighting or something.

Only done 1 shop in Asda but wasn't impressed, and the cafe was manky. Dunno why everyone has a downer on Morrissons, I like it. Maybe because that was the main supermarket near us growing up, so I'm used to it. And they have a good cafe too, and nice cakes, whats not to like?

LyraSilvertongue · 11/02/2008 23:21

Havalina, DP is the same, but in any supermarket. it's a good job he doesn't do the food shopping - we'd starve!

nappyaddict · 12/02/2008 00:54

i like asda cos it is cheaper but we don't buy anything like fruit/veg/meat/bread from the supermarket so can't comment on those.

housewife84 · 09/10/2012 09:15

Asda is full of horrible food which is cheap and nasty! Tesco has some good food and is i think cheaper than Asda for everyday products! There adverts are rubbish because i sometimes do the money supermarket thing and shop through it and it tells you who is the cheapest! and Tesco and Sainsburys are always cheaper than Asda! Asda has cheap products on things you never buy! Anyway i shop at Waitrose now because it is better than all of them!! You pay for what you get!!

SeveredEdMcDunnough · 09/10/2012 09:24

What have Homebase done? I know they are a bit jobby but still. I didn't know they were Evil.

SeveredEdMcDunnough · 09/10/2012 09:25

and fwiw I'd have a Sainsburys. Tesco and asda are both horrible.

WandaDoff · 09/10/2012 09:34

Zombie thread.

Myliferocks · 09/10/2012 09:41

We have both an Asda and Tesco where I live. Although the Tesco is nearer I do my weekly shop in Asda as it's cheaper. Tesco is used for one or two items late at night.

SausageDogBusyStreet · 09/10/2012 10:05

ZOMBIE THREAD
For a moment then I got really excited, recognising the names of previous (and I presume long gone) MNers.
How sad does that make me!
