So happy her talent shines.
Don't care about the fact she's no roll model.
Hope this helps her boost her self esteem and get her head straight.

so surely the message that gives then is that the best way to have a lasting career in the music industry is to have a drug habbit. That way you're sure to stay in the news, and more people will buy your albums/go to your concerts to see what it's all about.

And we look to these people as role models, .

Tutter · 11/02/2008 12:28

think she's talented

TheHonEnid · 11/02/2008 12:29

i think its a fairly new idea that rock stars have to be role models

they are rock stars fgs they are not supposed to be something for your dd to do her class project on

I like Amy Winehouse but I prefer Mark Ronson

TheHonEnid · 11/02/2008 12:30

lolol at disgrace to the music industry

she has a great voice and has had a very clever makeover

Tutter · 11/02/2008 12:46

wannabe are you my fil? [suspicious]

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/02/2008 12:49

Her voice sounds like a really old woman from the deep south (of the US). And she sounds slurred and just.. crap really.

Junkiness aside, I don't like those REALLY exaggerated and put-on american accents (eg Joss Stone who stupidly did hers when speaking as well as singing, daft mare..)

Wannabe "so surely the message that gives then is that the best way to have a lasting career in the music industry is to have a drug habbit. That way you're sure to stay in the news, and more people will buy your albums/go to your concerts to see what it's all about".

No, people with talent have long lasting careers and their music lives on long after they have died. It is from their talent where influence is derived. What goes on in their personal life is their business.

Unfortunately, these days, the media (and those that buy the junk that they purvey) insists that artists live their lives in a fish bowl so that every move and misdemeanour is captured, distorted and dissected.

donnie · 11/02/2008 12:55

she is moderately talented but let's face it she's no Joni Mitchell, neither is she anything like as talented as Billie Holliday. To suggest otherwise is delusional.

I agree with wannabe and others - she is a disgrace but rather than dislike her, I pity her. Few people ever truly kick the smack, sadly.

The fact that she has won so many awards gives a good indication about the quality of music generally IMO. But I suppose at least she's a bit more original and less genetically modified than beyonce and all those dull clones with silicone tits and botoxed to within an inch of their lives!

She is at the beginning of her career so comparing her to other great artists is of course premature. However, she does have innate, nascent talent and providing she does not commit hari kari, I think she will be around for a long time plus her music will get better and better, imo.

spokette · 11/02/2008 13:06

Hunky Dory is like fine wine - improves with age.

policywonk · 11/02/2008 13:08

I'd hate to be stuck in a lift with her, but I think the album is ruddy marvellous.

Agree that the fake US accent is annoying though.

TheHonEnid · 11/02/2008 13:17

shes been around for ages spokette

just as a rather nice jewish jazz singer with a bob rather than the current incarnation

Cappuccino · 11/02/2008 13:19

her knees make me laugh

spokette · 11/02/2008 13:27

Enid, I was thinking 5 years plus. Compared to the greats, she is just learning her trade and is only on her second album even though she started dabbling with music whilst still at school.

aelita · 11/02/2008 14:44

I must be delusional, 'cause I'd take her over Joni bloody Mitchell any day. Christ, aren't people allowed different musical tastes, or have I landed on the NME talk boards by mistake? Actually, no. I can't imagine the words 'a disgrace to the music industry' popping up on there

Nbg · 11/02/2008 14:49

Love Amy Winehouse. She has an amazing voice and makes brilliant music.
I dont love her lifestyle and I do feel for her because she clearly has issues.

Adele is good too but I get the impression she takes alot of her influence from AW.

ZippiBabes · 11/02/2008 14:49

joni mitchell raised a kind of smile from me too

I am listening to the pipettes...

they are fun

and they are definitely clean
