Just watched this. So shocked by how an innocent woman and her child were so tragically killed by a man who seemed to have it planned all along.

so very sad. Prayers and thoughts with the family of both Bennylyn and Jellica.

This is utterly horrific and really made me cry for them. He should hang for what he did. This is why I get so sick of the anti death penalty people. This is a candidate for sure, no question. Evil monster. Hopefully he won't last long in jail.

I actually don't agree with the death penalty - and definitely not in this case.

The death penalty makes us no better than animals and it's not a deterrent. And death row can be more costly with all the appeals.

But in Andrew Innes's case prison will be by far the greater punishment.

He's not only a murderer but a child rapist. He is lowest of the low in prison.

Want to see what other prisoner think of him? Watch this with the sound up, those shouts are from the others in the transport van twitter.com/thomasjbrown1/status/1622870030877597696?s=46&t=pV7rr1ATWKbieaP6R04pRQ

Anyway I think it’s important that we don’t let this one crime turn into a man bashing thread when there are so many simple lovely men in this world

Yes, that is definitely the most important thing to consider here. And it is just one crime; the two women a week murdered by their male partner in the U.K. don’t count.

Piccalino3 · 09/02/2023 06:35

I hope every minute left of this man's life is spent in fear and pain and I hope it's a long and miserable life left for him.

Adrelaxzz · 09/02/2023 06:38

So awful. I don't agree with hanging. My grandmother was raped and murdered in the 1950s in a different country. Her murderer was found, tried and hanged. Personally I would have preferred him to rot in jail.

Xol · 09/02/2023 07:07

Capital punishment simply brings us down to the level of the criminals themselves. Societies that allow it are really revolting.

Really? This is one of the first things you think to post on this thread?

It's not just one crime though is it? Men routinely murder women. It's not a one off.

Crumpetdisappointment · 09/02/2023 07:12

her poor sister, who she spoke to every day

MDavis · 09/02/2023 07:42

It’s such a brave thing for her sister and father to speak out as they have done. I’m in awe of them given the awful situation they are in with both their granddaughter and child and sister and niece gone.

Yes there are nice men, but there are too many evil men too. At least some are getting the punishment they deserve.

Fuck sake. A thread about yet another woman and child murdered by yet another man and your first concern is that we mustn’t hurt men’s feelings by suggesting they’re all like that? God almighty.

I agree with this. You can't say you aren't allowed to kill someone, but if you do we will kill you.

TightFistedWozerk · 09/02/2023 08:26

OP it is horrible, to learn that he plotted this horror. Her poor family, I have no words.

With regard to the let's not dwell on this crime committed by a man instruction, I believe Rule 10 of misogyny applies:

10. The worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad..

TheEponymousGrub · 09/02/2023 11:18

RE the death sentence: surely if a crime carried the death penalty, nobody would ever plead guilty to it. Whereas currently if they admit to such a crime, it's reflected in lighter sentencing. I think. So the absence of a death penalty does have that advantage.
Plus, there will always be miscarriages of justice. To execute one wrong person isn't worth the satisfaction of executing any number of right people.

I really can't bear to watch the programme. Anyone who has seen it - does it explain who the other child who was raped is? I haven't seen it on any of the newspaper reporting, only that she was an older girl in the house at the same time as the murders and presumably still there afterwards since he is reported as saying in court that he probably would have killed her later if the police hadn't turned up. I don't know if she's another child of Bennylyn or unrelated. Horrendous for her in either case, but if it's her own mother and sister who were killed while she was there, even worse. I guess maybe it's not being reported to protect her identity, but I just feel so sorry for that poor child and her family as well as Bennylyn and Jellica.

Her identity is protected by law. It's contempt of court to name her or give any information that would identify her.

Fink · 09/02/2023 19:58

Ok, thanks @Klex

I would delete this message if I were you. Speculation regarding a child's protected identity on a media platform is risky.

I cant bring my self to watch this, heartbreaking 🥹🥹

Icecreamandapplepie · 09/02/2023 21:07

Thanks goodness I didn't click on this news story or see any details. The headline was enough. My brain can't take anymore.

Thanks to whoever posted that twitter link. Really cheered me up to hear those inmates and think about what awaits him. Not enough but a tiny, satisfying piece of justice.

Nowdontmakeamess · 09/02/2023 21:36

Absolutely horrific, and the thought of what the two little girls must have suffered is unbearable.

I think I read somewhere he had previous convictions for CSA, if those crimes were take more seriously maybe he would have been locked up and this tragedy could have been prevented.

@Armless32 My lovely man is just as horrified and outraged as the rest of us and feels no guilt by association just for sharing a sex with this monster.

Good men do not need us to defend them. They understand.

Mcmcmcmc · 19/02/2023 23:48

I can’t stop thinking about the fact that the little girl was killed 3 days after her mum. I can’t bear to imagine what she must have been through for those 3 days. She must have been so confused by the absence of her mum and so terrified. And the other girl there, I can’t imagine the trauma she must (still) be going through, especially after knowing what happened to Bennylyn and Jellica.
