Article in the Independent

There is an e-petition to raise the profile of this brave man who has been sentenced to death in Afghanistan for downloading information on women's rights from the internet.

edam · 31/01/2008 19:00

I used to get extremely angry. X was in teh army and i still have a lot of friends still serving.
i know many who were injured in Afghanistan and the fact that it was all seemingly worthless, just depresses me.

From what I read in the torygraph a few days ago, this is as much to punish his brother (who criticised the regime) as it is about the percieved insult to Islam by Kambaksh himself. I have signed but I suspect that the petition will have zero effect on getting the poor sod released.

donnie · 01/02/2008 14:40

I read this in the Indie this morning. I was wondering if it is connected to Hamid Karzai's recent u-turn on accepting Paddy Ashdown as a special envoy to Afghanistan. Apparently Kharzai has upheld the sharia court's decision to execute this man.

fairylights · 01/02/2008 14:47

have signed for me and dh..
i weep for afghanistan, the afghan refugees in have met here have been such wonderful people. So sad
