well I think the amount of responses to this thread just goes to show that Mmc was clearly a one-off and that no other child will ever get that kind of publicity again .

After all I wouldn't imagine the parents of this child can afford a spokesperson or to visit the pope .

Apparently, the mother was lying on the sofa feeling ill and the little girl went 100 yds to shop to buy crisps. 100 yds isn't far, right? But still I personally wouldn't let my 5 yo go out of the house on their own. The family are also about to launch a publicity campaign 'taking the McCann family's lead' no doubt there's no way it will be on such a huge scale.

Penguin...but you have to consider what the norm is in an area....if everybody lets their Kids go out at such an young age, and traffic and things like that are not to much of an issue...well, it just would be the norm, wouldn't it!

The family of this girl may feel the publicity of a potential connection with Madeleine will help them. Generally stories involving the gypsy community are not very high profile in Spain .

also a boy from Lee Green in Greenwich has been missing since the 24th december

oh, she reminds me of dd2. same shade of skin and features, but just lighter shade of brown in eyes and hair in dd2, as she is bi-racial.

i want to circulate this in the US, where i'm from and where a Spanish-looking girl who has been abducted may not raise as many eyebrows as in Europe, particularly if she were in the presence of people from another nationality or race, as there are many mixed-race people there.

My parents also have a number of Brazilian friends. Again, I've sent them this poster to circulate and hopefully to get to Brasilia.

I think this is so sad, I was on the tube last night and the woman next to me was discussing it with her friend, and the whole bloody conversation was McCann based,I feel greatly for the McCann family I think it must be a living nightmare everyday, the fact they do not know if their child is dead or alive, if she is hurt or scared also the fact that they must be thinking what if we had not left them in the room alone.
I think the spin and the publicity has done as much harm to them as it has good in keeping Madeleine in the news, However that said she is not the first and sadly will not be the last child to go missing, and yes god forbid if I was ever in their shoes I would spend every waking moment looking for my child, but I think the news papers and so on need to leg go a little, Mari is not Madeleine and she needs to be found just as much, so they need to get her picture out there, her details and not try and like it to Madeleine, This little girl is as important, her family are as valued, or is a case of blond,blue eyed, middle class English girl is of a higher value then a little girl from a different kind of life?

I have emailed Mari's pic to everyone I know abroad, If we all do the same then its a start.

Any missing child is a missing child for all those who love children. To hurt a little girl is as bad in Portugal, Spain, UK or anywhere else. We all want them to be found no matter the colous of their eyes or hair,

According to UNICEF in the month after Madeleine McCann disappeared (and remember we have no strong evidence over what happened that night beyond the parents leaving them alone, after that it is all speculation) over 800 children went missing in Europe.

While some might be parental abductions, some might be run aways and here is hoping some might have been found. It is a sobering thought that in one month that amount of children vanished without recognition other than their families.
