As thousands have been arrested for protesting, one wonders what the state of the Russian penal system is like at the moment, conditions must be far worse than whatever human rights violation existed beforehand.

Since nobody posted an update on Marina Ovsyannikova, I will. She's fine, and got off very easy - probably because her transgression was so public that they couldn't just haul her off and murder her. She was arrested, fined, supposedly quit (not fired?), but was immediately offered another job by a German news company.
