Six years after staging her own kidnapping. I remember there was a lengthy thread on here at the time saying how dodgy it all looked. Her poor dh and kids. She’s looking at a 30 year prison sentence!

I would be careful about saying she definitely staged her own kidnapping. A few years ago, the Vallejo police had to pay $2.5M to Denise Huskins and her fiancé after wrongly claiming that her kidnapping was a hoax. It may be that the authorities have got it right this time, but we don't know the evidence.

Good point. Ok, allegedly staging her own kidnapping. Sounds like the evidence is fairly stacked against her

She has now admitted that she staged her kidnapping. Her husband is divorcing her. I can’t believe it’s taken since 2016 to charge her!!!

Crazy

Her poor husband and loved ones

It’s just so odd. Why would she do that?!

It seems she was hoping to use the kidnapping story as cover for having a fling with her ex-boyfriend.

She has agreed to please guilty, she’s not going to get anywhere near that long. I suspect they’ll come at it from a mental health angle too.

They won't need to. In the USA, part of a plea deal involves agreeing a sentence. She therefore already knows what sentence she is going to get.

But chopping your hair off, starving yourself, beating and burning/branding yourself? That’s some way to cover up a fling. Either way it’s not the behaviour of a mentally stable person.

I’m not sure she was having a fling, I’m sure I read that the ex said not. More like she was using him for a place to hide while wanting to be out of sight and to rough her up a bit. I got the impression that the fake kidnapping was the primary goal.

The FBI seem to think she did it so that she could spend time with her ex. I haven't seen any denial from her ex, but I may have missed it. Even if he did deny it, that is no guarantee.

Her ex says she told him her husband was abusive and that the police were not investigating reported incidents. The police say there were no reported incidents. There is, apparently, evidence that she enjoys a fairly distant relationship with the truth, routinely exaggerating and lying to get attention.
