i'm really desperate-i can't find homebase

moondog · 14/12/2007 19:29

Unbelievable

I can't understand why they even half humour them like that lunatic woman who wanted the PM.

southeastastra · 14/12/2007 19:30

omg people are nuts. i want to tell the prime minister what a great job he's doing?!

i'm panicking because i can't find homebase?

i'm surprised the operators can stay calm.

Blandmum · 14/12/2007 19:32

If you spend your life dealing with calls from the public you eventually become utterly unshockable.

I used to work as a medical information officer. Most of the calls we did were quite sensible, but some of them!

I once had a man phone us to ask if he could use spermicidal jelly to keep aphids off his organic hop plants. That was a good one.

And we had a regular caller, who used to ring us on thursday with full lurid details of what she was going to get upto on a 'Dirty weekend' (her words) and ask for contraceptive advice (we made contraceptives).

Whats wrong with people

PersonalChristmasElf · 14/12/2007 19:34

OMG at the woman about the PM.

moondog · 14/12/2007 19:34

lol

MB,how are things with the bishop himself?

Blandmum · 14/12/2007 19:35

Much better thanks.

Symptoms under control, no pain, no vomiting, little nausea. May be responding to the new chemo. all set for crimbo

Pickie · 14/12/2007 19:36

Absolutely unbelievable and the lady (well ...) believed it was an 999 situation, I am getting very stressed now......

I couldnt believe it when I heard this! Such a waste of resource!

Goes off in hiding as suddlenly remember DS (26 months) dailing 999 on my mobile which he managed to unlock! Received a right bullocking and deservingly so!

southeastastra · 14/12/2007 19:38

who on earth dials 999 to get the time?

i feel sorry for paramedics too, tonight is meant to be their busiest time

moondog · 14/12/2007 19:39

Oh wonderful news. He's a tough one eh, your flying ace?
Thank God!

sfxmum · 14/12/2007 19:39

I think the operators are too nice
some ridiculous people
no doubt some with genuine mental health problems but still

PersonalChristmasElf · 14/12/2007 19:41

On a slight detour, I never realised just how many stupid people went to A&E at ridiculous times of the night!
Sitting in the adults part with Ds (major croup, difficulty breathing) as Paeds was full, I was at people coming in with headaches, splinters and papercuts!
I know they'd all had a bit to drink but still!

moondog · 14/12/2007 19:44

Oh my friend is an a & e nurse. She tells me about people coming in with paper cuts.

PersonalChristmasElf · 14/12/2007 19:44

I bet she's got some stories.

frostythesnowmum · 14/12/2007 19:49

I am an a and e nurse and we have had a 30 year old man who called an ambulance for a small haemerroid, I've also had a lady who was shopping in town and got blisters from new shoes she called an ambulance and came to a and e because she wanted it documenting as she was going to sue clarks .
There is one elderly couple who regulary call the ambulance out at night when they let their dog out and can't get him back in.
I could go on and on.

PersonalChristmasElf · 14/12/2007 19:51

SHEESH!!

JinglyJangly · 14/12/2007 19:56

How bloody annoying these people phoning for stupid reasons - might explain why when my DD (aged 13 months at the time) had a seizure we had to wait 1 hr for an ambulance.

No in fact we waited so long we drove her to A&E ourselves .

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 14/12/2007 19:59

I think I'm equally at the operators for engaging with them, tbh.

Should be a policy of "sorry, that is not a life or death situation, goodbye." phone down, call logged and big bill dispatched.

Why on earth they waste time trying to reason with them is beyond me..... meanwhile, someone is trying to get through to get help for their partner who's stopped breathing.

i know a paramedic and she despairs at some of the calls she has to deal with.

gemmiegoatlegs · 14/12/2007 20:03

i thought the woman who couldn't find Ho,ebase sounded genuinely distressed

geekymummy · 14/12/2007 20:30

I can't believe that people are so STUPID!

Then again I do work with the general public, so I can

That woman who demanded to speak the the PM - words fail me. I deal with people like that all the time [fhmmm]

geekymummy · 14/12/2007 20:31

If I worked on 999 it would take every fibre within me not to tell em where to go!!!

AnneMayesR · 14/12/2007 21:07

I know someone who worked for 911. They had a woman phone because burger king screwed up her order and then was rude about it. She ordered the dispatcher to send the police out over it. When they refused she got really nasty.

I think the prime minister woman sounded like she had dementia or something...in the earlier stages maybe.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 14/12/2007 21:33

idiots!they should have just hung up on the pm one
