His genome has been analysed and guess what? The man has black ancestors. I bet he wished he kept his stupid mouth shut now, doh.

I've also met Professr Harold Kroto.

I also met Professor Yves Chauvin, Professor Richard Shrock and Professor Robert Grubbs who jointly won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2005 for their work on Metathesis.

I also attended a conference with Grubb's son who was a post-doc in chemistry and we exchanged ideas on the work that I was doing in polymer kinetics.

I think I had lunch with some physics Nobel laureates the other week but I couldn't work out which ones they were and I know nothing about physics anyway. I think at one point I told them all they would get better reactions to their popularizing science type lectures if they dressed up as Harry Potter characters.

That's a fascinating link, Hallgerda, thanks! I'm keen to read more about him now - what an interesting life.

I couldn't suppress a frivolous wish, though, on behalf of physicists everywhere, that he'd been called Tom Brown or Fred Jones instead...

well - there was me dropping in on a thread that looked like it was all about Dr Watson - and I stumble across a "name dropping and gossping" thread
