.. cutting up his dog collar as a protest against Mugabe and Zimbabwe?
He is my hero: a true twentieth-century prophet.

Didn't see it but I've met him and he is amazing. Well done him!!

Kathyate6mincepies · 09/12/2007 20:52

Extraordinary how, in a nation where so few of us go to church, a bishop can represent such strong moral leadership.

WendyWeber · 09/12/2007 20:53

Didn't see it but it was reported on the news this morning - I was tickled!

He sounds like such a good bloke

DingdongMaryBonhigh · 09/12/2007 21:01

You can watch it here:

alittlebitshy · 09/12/2007 21:02

ah wow! he married me and dh, and is just fab!!!

lyrasdaemon · 10/12/2007 13:27

I'm going to see him in Warrington next month. I can't wait!!!

donnie · 10/12/2007 14:24

he is such a good ambassador for the church and for standing up for what is right. I just wish other African leaders - take a bow Thabo Mbeki - would stand up and speak against the foul dictator that is Mugabe.

cazzybabs · 10/12/2007 14:25

He married me! He is truely a brilliant man.

DingdongMaryBonhigh · 10/12/2007 16:37

He's married at least two women on MN, surely that makes him a bigamist?

UnquietDad · 10/12/2007 16:44

Top guy. But I wonder how he got into Broadcasting House with a pair of scissors in his pocket?!

TheIceQueen · 10/12/2007 16:45

Didn't see the programme - but saw it on the news later - great stuff

cazzybabs · 10/12/2007 16:57

I know it is terrible!

Unfitmother · 10/12/2007 17:04

I saw him, he was great.

Saturn74 · 10/12/2007 17:06

He's a top bloke.

alittlebitshy · 10/12/2007 17:12

cazzybabs - cool. snap. where did he marry you (was it when he was a bsihop or before??)he was my dh's boss at the time (his area bishop)

cazzybabs · 10/12/2007 17:16

Well - it was just after his big promotion!! My MIL was on the general syonod (sp?) with him and he agreed to marry us when he was bishop of Birmingham...but we took so long to decide venues etc that he then got to be Archbishop. I am guessing your dh is a vicar in Birmingham? Where abouts - we got married at St. Peter's (in Harborne right over the road from his old house). Mind oyu I was so scared of him - I already had 1dd and was pregnant with number 2.

wolveschick · 10/12/2007 17:19

I love this man. He is not afraid to speak out about sensitive issues and always speaks so much sense. I also remember when he first came to Birmingham and immediately bought cars made by local car plants to show support. I remember a very detailed artcilde in Saturday Telegraph magazine a few years ago. Wish someone would do a biography as his early life is fascinating.

alittlebitshy · 10/12/2007 18:45

no -we were in Stepney area when he was area bishop there.... he got the Birmingham job a few months after our wedding.
He's great - even if he did insist my name was something that it wasn't (my name is a common name in it's own right but traditionally used to be an abbreviated form.....)

alittlebitshy · 10/12/2007 18:48

I know that Mugabe is one of his middle names, and he is (can't think if the right word - i want to say ashamed but not sure it's the right word) conscious of that.....

TheIceQueen · 10/12/2007 19:02

I think his middle name is actually Mugabi....not the Shona (Zimbabwean) Mugabe....but still I see your point....

Mind you I know of plenty of "Mugabes" who are ardent MDC supporters - so nothing to be too ashamed of

moondog · 10/12/2007 19:04

Yes,he's a groover alright.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 10/12/2007 19:36

Didn't se it, but I punched the air when I saw in paper - what a hero!!!!!!!! More guts than all our lily-livered politicos and diplomats put together.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/12/2007 19:46

Brilliant! I saw it in papers today.

I so wish Peter Tatchell had stuck to trying to 'arrest' people like Mugabe instead of outing gays, I know some of the latter were terrible hypocrites but it just looked mean.
