Oh my days! he is no longer education secretary. Any guesses who is replacing him?

Oblomov21 · 15/09/2021 15:43

Good grief. Will we get worse next time?

skodadoda · 15/09/2021 15:44

@JosephineDeBeauharnais

Crossing fingers that Priti Patel gets kicked to the kerb.
She’s staying - unfortunately
Usuallytootiredbuthappyanyway · 15/09/2021 15:48

Come on now...why would we need to know that any earlier than a month in advance?

MrsAvocet · 15/09/2021 15:48

I can't get excited. It will e out of the frying pan into the fire whoever gets the job.

CheeseCrackersAndChutney · 15/09/2021 16:02

Meh. Unless they’re replacing him with a Labour MP I can’t really get too excited 🤣

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 15/09/2021 16:03

@moch

Mario You've echoed some of my fears, that we shouldn't get too excited, it all depends who is coming next. We might be wishing Gav was back! Tomorrow can't come soon enough.
Was really pleased for about half a second and then remembered that they tend to give Ed Sec to complete plums/bastards/know nothings.
Orangejuicemarathoner · 15/09/2021 16:05

@marioduck

Who cares. The next person will be more of the same. It's called a reshuffle for a reason.

Musical chairs depending on who is in favour, who can offer power, blah blah. Pointless shite.

I doubt it.

GW ordered Greenwich schools to reopen 2 days before Christmas. when he had been informed that covid was totally out of control there.

Even by our government standards, there can be very few politicians who's actions have lead so directly to such completely predictable and totally unnecessary deaths

So long as she doesn't get kicked into Education. I can see Boris deciding that he should give a woman a go and maybe we won't all be so beastly about her. Though even she would be better than that idiot Truss.
Notonthestairs · 15/09/2021 16:10

Patel is staying as Home Sec.

Tana433 · 15/09/2021 16:11

Oliver Dowden by the looks of it. Its not a role i would be toughing with a barge pole.

moch · 15/09/2021 16:26

Can anyone explain why they can't just appoint someone afresh to the cabinet???

OP posts:
Tana433 · 15/09/2021 16:51

Whoops! No, Dowden doesnt want the job and who can blame him? Maybe they will give it to that snivelling creep Matt Hancock. That will teach him!

RedToothBrush · 15/09/2021 16:54

So Boris Johnson finally admits what most sane people knew in 2019.

Gavin Williamson is fecking useless and should never have been appointed Education Secretary.

Only took him 2 years to work it out.

Sorry, I can't find any news on this. Has Dowden turned something down?
choccohoopz · 15/09/2021 17:06

Nadhim Zahawi. I'm not sure how I feel about this one, definitely could have been worse.

Tana433 · 15/09/2021 17:08

@IntermittentParps No sorry, just me speculating as BBC news had him pegged for it apparently according to their reporter.

greenlynx · 15/09/2021 17:09

Are you sure?

WanJames · 15/09/2021 17:12

It’s like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic

Ah, OK.

CoronaPeroni · 15/09/2021 17:21

Omg Gavlar is Vaccines minister. We're all doomed...

MurielSpriggs · 15/09/2021 17:24

Slightly off-topic, but my theory is that we should pay the PM a salary of £10m a year, and government ministers at least £1m.

That would be a miniscule drop in the ocean of public expenditure (and still a bargain compared to the pay of executive directors of huge corporations, which are minnows compared to the government's budget). But it would mean people with talent and ability would be attracted into politics, instead of the ludicrous bunch of incompetent, lying, self-serving cunts that we currently have.

RunningStrong · 15/09/2021 17:27

Talk about stitch a man up. Who could have got it right during his tenure and then kick him out just as (hopefully) it's all over.

I mean obviously he's been awful but it does seem like a set up.

CorrBlimeyGG · 15/09/2021 17:32

Nadhim Zahawi is not going to be a friend of teachers, or parents. When defending the government cutting free school meals provision, he claimed parents actually preferred to pay a pound or two. This claim had no basis in fact.

QueefofSheena · 15/09/2021 17:33

They have one agenda, the only thing that changes is the gob that’s spouting it. They are fodder for the criticism later.

That said, an Education Secretary who thinks that ‘everything’ ends with a k was a new low.

PickAChew · 15/09/2021 17:34

I'm sure they can dredge up someone equally terrible. Spoilt for choice.
