Hi all
there is an issue re the vigil that is being planned for Saturday on the grounds that it is against the rules of the covid 19 social distancing etc , apparently the Police are quoted as saying they didn't want the event to happen and it was taken to court ...the judge has ruled that is up to the police to decide ...just a heads up ...

BUT ok for the Scottish football club people to gather and celebrate the clubs winning with Steve Gerard and there are no finds of £10,000 quid going on though Nicola Sturgeon firmly disapproved !!!after the event !!

Priti Patel has drawn up a new bill that will pretty much make any form of protest illegal.

No-one organised the Rangers fans celebration. People just turned up independently. So there is no-one to fine £10,000. However, fans were arrested and fined.

No, she has not, although some campaigners would like you to believe she has. The main proposed substantive changes in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill are:
  • a demonstration (including a one-person protest) may be banned if noise from it will disrupt the activities of an organisation in the vicinity of the protest or the noise will intimidate, harass or cause serious alarm or distress to people in the vicinity of the protest
  • it strengthens the law around obstructing vehicular access to parliament
  • if parliament is meeting somewhere else, it allows the Home Secretary to impose restrictions in that area similar to those that exist around the Houses of Parliament

May be they could do it another way ... turn up during the day in twos to Clapham common and place flowers in a designated area ? just to show a mark of acknowledgement and respect and leave messages ...there are many ways to protest if the powers that be deem it not wise for mass gatherings .....surely this would be allowed ?

A spontaneous event with no organisers (like the footie one, which was foreseeable but not planned as such) obviously cannot lead to fines against those (non-existent) organisers. But individuals can be fined.

The organisers of the VIgil have reminded people that large gatherings can result in fines to those present and urged women not to gather.

Instead, they are launching a fund raiser, aiming to raise £10k for each site where there would have been a vigil (32 of them)

Flowers started to be laid at the bandstand yesterday

Well here we go which was bound to happen I'm afraid I do think that the Police Seniors could have allowed the vigil to happen as the judge said it was open for further discussion - covid 19 was being used to silence the women and the frontline police copped for it! and I know it was against the rules etc
this could have been done peacefully and safely with further discussions but the Senior police pulled the plug and so no one was going to listen anymore ....
The MPs have also spoken out about the scenes that erupted ...
Boris Johnson doing what he normally does making all the speeches about safety on the streets etc this the man who dumped on the NHS from a great height !
women never got their rights peacefully They have to cause a stir for people to listen even when it is illegal to do so ...

Listen the footie one was planned, don’t forget a second think it wasn’t. Just not the same way with Safety and police discussions before hand but it was planned on social media. The response to both events has been appalling.
