Israel demolishing Bedouin homes

Just watched the Channel 4 news account of what Israel are up to now with yet more land grabbing and destroying people’s homes. Apparently there have been Bedouins on that land since before the creation of the Jewish state, but that hasn’t stopped Israel from deciding to boot them out. Kids left homeless and not even water to drink because the Israeli army even tipped over their water supplies. Fucking disgusting. The tribes tents had been supplied by European charities and organisations after their last homes were destroyed. Israel are apparently breaking international law by what they are doing, and for once our foreign office have the the balls to tell them to stop what they are doing immediately. Not that Israel care though 😡
Why does the rest of the world let them get away with this shit???

@CrazyNeighbour

Apologies in advance for quoting Wiki, but that isn’t the aim of BDS.

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) is a Palestinian-led[6] movement promoting boycotts, divestments, and economic sanctions against Israel. Its objective is to pressure Israel to meet what the BDS movement describes as Israel's obligations under international law,[7] defined as withdrawal from the occupied territories, removal of the separation barrier in the West Bank, full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and "respecting, protecting, and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties".[8] The movement is organized and coordinated by the Palestinian BDS National Committee.[9]

When these aims are daubed anti-Semitic and looking for the annihilation of Israel you make an uphill battle for yourself persuade people that your cause is equitable or just.

What do you think that the return of 7+ million refugees to what is now Israel will mean for the State of Israel exactly?

So clearly BDS is not about settlements.

Listen to what their founder has said. The aim is to get rid of Israel.

Oyvavoy · 04/05/2021 14:38

In any case, BDS is irrelevant. If you want to believe it not anti-semitic and support the destruction of the State of Israel adn want to boycott Israeli dates to feel good about yourself, knock yourself out. But unless you check where your computer chip was manufactured (Intel has a factory in Israel), where any medication you need comes from, whether any apps you use were developed in Israel, etc, etc you won't touch the Israeli economy. It's far more developed, complex and diversified than the South African one was 30 years ago. Plus the Israeli economy developed under far harsher boycott conditions so Israelis know how to work around them :)

I get the bind Israel is in, but continuing to support settlements will not make the problem go away.

Where do you think those 7+ Million Refugees should go? Because, (as Britain, France Belgium etc. can confirm) in general terms “You broke it, you own it” applies for dealing with the people you’ve colonized.

Israel didn't 'colonize' when it was created. Totally different situation in 1947/48 to the situation post-1967. The refugees were created during a nasty civil war, precipitated in no small part by the Palestinians themselves (and their refusal to accept partition). The vast majority of refugees have never lived in Israel, nor have their parents,and many have citizenship of another country which for EVERY other refugee under international law means that refugee status ends (because you have the protection of another State). But not for Palestinians. Why is that?

Since this conversation about the actions of the Israeli government has already spread into a discussion about what constitutes anti-semitism, could I take this opportunity to recommend David Baddiel’s excellent book ‘Jews Don’t Count’. Very enlightening reading, especially for those who would consider themselves on the right side of history. I read it in one sitting.

Nasty, smug posts there Oyvavoy. You sound pleased at the fact that Palestinians are having their homes stolen from under their feet. Good for you.

AKA fallacious ad-hominem attack

@kirlali

To answer your last question, because Europeans rounded up, deported and murdered two thirds of world Jewry in WW2.
Exactly.

So it’s let’s bash Israel again. I agree, what they are doing is awful, but why do people always single out Israel? Plenty of atrocities happening all over the world. The Palestinians need to get their own house in order, starting with giving women and gay people equal rights. At least Israel does that.

I suspect the fact that one of the PPs believes that wealthy Jewish financiers were responsible for bringing America into WW2 - which really wouldn't go amiss in Der Strumer - is one clue as to that person's thinking about Jews and Israel. Explains a lot IMO.

It is disgusting.Angry The Israeli government's handling of these land grabs is morally reprehensible and detrimental to the security of the Israeli people.Sad

supermoonrising · 12/05/2021 18:12

Simply no excuse for one of the most powerful and high tech military nations on the planet to be killing dozens of children. It’s despicable.

stirling · 15/05/2021 15:48

It is DISGUSTING. Israelis are inhumane in their arrogant stance to grab land and make thousands of families homeless /killed in the process... "it's our land according to our ancient scriptures" is the most despicable excuse I've ever heard.

Telling people to focus on other dramas around the world is a great way of saying - let's just turn a blind eye to this.

I feel mortified for the families in Palestine and repulsed by the silent stance of the UK /us government... Money talks though doesn't it?

The holocaust has sod all to do with land theft.
