Coleen Rooney loses stage 1 in the Wagatha Christie case

The judge has said her infamous post clearly laid the blame in Vardy, even though Coleen was careful to say the leak was from Rebekah’s account rather than that it was Rebekah.

Coleen has been ordered to pay 23k costs.

The trial about the actual libel will carry on in Feb unless an agreement is reached before then.

Ooo er.

I am AGOG I tell ya.

CoronaIsWatching · 20/11/2020 15:22

I think Colleen was wrong and immature to do it in public, I think she deserves to lose in Court. But hey at least it keeps her in the papers.

Frazzled2207 · 20/11/2020 15:24

I’m on Colleen’s side generally, can’t abide RV but she should have tried to sort this out privately IMO, rather than on Instagram which was not classy at all.

PersonaNonGarter · 20/11/2020 15:26

Wow. This is the celeb story that keeps on giving.

JacobReesMogadishu · 20/11/2020 15:29

I’m team Coleen all the way.

I’m following this case with interest. Do agree with the judge that what Colleen wrote did place the blame on Rebekah rather than any of her assistants. It’s remains the be seen if it was fairly placed...

AdaColeman · 20/11/2020 15:37

23K? The price of a pair of shoes to Coleen!

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 20/11/2020 15:40

What a pair of twits. The lawyers fees could have been better used by a charity. Selfish, self centred women. Why not have a conversation about it like normal people?

JacobReesMogadishu · 20/11/2020 15:43

Yeah but this is just the beginning. I’d guess if the full trial goes ahead costs could be hundreds of thousands minimum.

I’m sure m’learned friends will be strongly advising both women to refuse to settle the case at this stage, while rubbing their hands together. 💰 💰 💰

Why do you expect tenth rate celebs to be classy?
BecomeStronger · 20/11/2020 15:53

I've always suspected this was a joint publicity stunt hatched up by the two of them. Hugely successful if it was.

ComDummings · 20/11/2020 15:55

I’m Team Coleen all the way. £23k is like pocket change to her anyway so I doubt she cares about that. Interesting to see how the next bit will go.

Frazzled2207 · 20/11/2020 19:30

@SirGawain
Fair point!

Hohofortherobbers · 20/11/2020 20:19

I can't abide the pair of them. But I am on RV side if I have to choose. It was a damaging statement to publicly make if CR understood it may well have been the result of someone other than RV with access to the account. Should have been handled privately as I'm sure CR now wishes she had done. I don't understand why the sun can't be forced to reveal the culprit, the whole trial could be avoided if they said who informed them.

laudemio · 20/11/2020 20:30

Fgs theyare friends and this is raising both their profiles nicely.

PersonaNonGarter · 21/11/2020 07:36

I think there is genuine grievance - RV was pregnant at the time. Coleen Rooney was clearly furious about breach of trust. It seems to have affected whether the Vardy children can watch their dad at matches.

BlackCatShadow · 21/11/2020 07:39

It's a shame that it's still going on. The only person who really wins with these cases is the lawyers.

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 21/11/2020 07:48

Someone’s been horribly wronged.

Either CR was betrayed by someone who she thought was a friend selling stories.

Or RV has been accused publicly of something she didn’t do.

Both awful things to happen to someone. But which?

Hope we find out, if it gets settled we won’t.

prh47bridge · 21/11/2020 09:22

For those interested, whilst CR referred to "RV's account" in some of her posts, she said that "just one person" had viewed her fake posts, which clearly implies that it was RV. She also said that "someone who I trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account" had been leaking stories to the Sun, again implying that it was RV. The judge also did not accept that readers of CR's posts would have assumed that RV's account was being used or managed by someone else. He therefore concluded that CR's words clearly accused RV of leaking stories to the Sun.

This makes it very difficult for CR to win the case. It appears she has proof that someone with access to RV's account has been leaking. Given the judge's ruling on the interpretation of her words that is unlikely to be enough. She needs to show that RV was leaking or that whoever was leaking was doing so with RV's consent.
