My dh, (african) laughed his head off when he heard that on the news this morning. I don't know how he has the ability to laugh at this, he is an amazing person.

Haven't a lot of geneticists decided that race doesn't actually exist? ie that you could look at a person's genotype and you might find genes determining how dark their skin is, and genes that are statistically more common in parts of the world where their ancestors originated, but you can't look at their genotype and say "This person is a....." because those categories just don't exist at the genetic level.

he is a vv arrogant man who takes full credit for a scientific discovery that lots of people participated in and especially Rosalind Franklin who should have got the nobel prize..... been wanting to get that off my chest for a long time

I was talking with a family acquaintance a few months ago, who works in some lab somewhere, and he was promoting the idea that evolutionary genetics had shown the native Australian and American people were not as 'genetically developed' as white westerners, and that was why they had problems with alcohol.

I was just so that an educated person could think that way. I know he often does it to try and rile me (being as I'm catholic), but I have a large inkling that these are his real views, and he uses the 'humour' thing as a bit of a cover to excuse himself.

I've met him as well and he was actually very pleasant. Obviously am now revising my opinion of him.
