In today's Times Frank Furedi says that the hatred generated by the likes of CV is in part at least "inspired by the conviction that their style of parenting calls into question your status and identity as a responsible mother."

Oh Jacanne, thank you, that has restored my faith in human nature. I always liked Thomas Sutcliffe but he has outdone himself there. It's humane and fantastically well-written. I particularly loved "rigidly timetabled neglect" and "a recipe for defeating a child not raising it". He skewers Channel 4 very effectively too.

just a thought. It could be that because we are all (myself included) ranting about all the aspects of CVs routine that we hate, not just the bits that we think are actually abusive and dangerous it becomes easier for a lazy journalist or commentator to think it could be a matter of conflicting parenting styles rather than disgust a) at the romanian ophanage approach and b)its trial for the TV experiement
