Some reports that a lot of asylum seekers stay in the hotel ?
They have just said on the news the hotel was closed but was being used as temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. It is very sad.
Flopjustwantscoffee · 26/06/2020 14:54

Also, maybe certain terrorist attachs (if thats what this was) have been postponed up till now because of lockdown so everythings happening at once. (Im not saying terrorists are concerned about following social distancing or the r-number just that with less people around city centres, less movement, the news dominated by other things it would have harder)

areyoubeingserviced · 26/06/2020 14:55

This whole thing is scary.
I will not be letting my kids out for the foreseeable future
Self isolation is becoming more attractive

@pigeon999

The mental health of some people after lockdown is causing these situations. Such a terrible situation, so soon after Reading :(
Nonsense. Extremist, fundamentalist religious ideologies which are incompatible with secular, liberal societies are causing these problems. These people are not ill. They are murderous terrorists. They are a cancer in our society.

Absolutely do not agree. Idealogy is causing this. Many people suffer with their MH, they do not go out and stab innocent people

AgeLikeWine · 26/06/2020 15:00

I’m just waiting for the inevitable announcement: “The suspect was known to MI5.....”

Gottheteeshirtandlostit · 26/06/2020 15:03

Lots of people jumping to conclusions on this thread. There was trouble the other night in Glasgow with a demonstrating asylum seekers being attacked by members of the far right.

Xenia · 26/06/2020 15:08

IN Glasgow a witness said the man was of African origin and the other day the man who murdered 3 white men in England was Libyan.

We need everyone whether black or white in the UK or outside the UK to remember Thou Shalt not kill.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 26/06/2020 15:11

It is being used as temporary accommodation for asylum seekers. Conditions are not good there and tensions have been running high. There have been demonstrations about it and counter demonstrations from the far right.
We don't know the details but I would guess mental health rather than an ideologically motivated attack. Very, very sad Sad

GetOffYourHighHorse · 26/06/2020 15:11

'I’m just waiting for the inevitable announcement: “The suspect was known to MI5.....'

We don't know anything definite yet. It could be a far right terrorist or an Islamic terrorist.

Even if known to MI5 what do you think should happen to stop it? 'all cops are bastards' apparently so if they followed and searched every single person who has demonstrated extreme ideology they'd get accused of racism and harassment.

Awful situation.

Bloke23 · 26/06/2020 15:12

And i would het this guy was known to secruity service's

Orangeblossom78 · 26/06/2020 15:16

said the man was of African origin I think this was the victim

Alex50 · 26/06/2020 15:16

I feel sorry for the police at the moment, they are walking a tightrope, on the one hand trying to keep everyone safe but accused of racism if they are seen to be to heavy handed. I can see the army being called in.

In absence of any facts why not just make something up 🙄
mrsswayze · 26/06/2020 15:22

BBC Scotland say 6 injured 3 dead the man who did it was shot and thought to be an immigrant

Orangeblossom78 · 26/06/2020 15:23

OK

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 26/06/2020 15:25

An article I read said at least 12 people had been stabbed. I was sent a picture of that man lying on the steps. Can't believe people stand by and take pictures of a person lying potentially bleeding to death!

mbosnz · 26/06/2020 15:25

Well to be fair, the suspect in Reading was in a serious mental health crisis, with numerous mental health issues including PTSD.

"The mental health of some people after lockdown is causing these situations. "

It isn't looking like that is the situation in Glasgow. But one of the warnings of lock down included the scaling back of MH support, which was going to cause violent instances.

Asylum seekers are very vulnerable and it must be very scary for them right now. They thought that they'd found sanctuary.

The authorities are sometimes very grateful to receive pictures taken by the public though, as they could include additional information that might otherwise be missed.

@user1487194234

Some reports that a lot of asylum seekers stay in the hotel ?
So are you assuming that the stabbing has been done by an asylum seeker, and if so, are you saying how much harder mentally it must have been for people seeking asylum during lockdown who have had no recourse to public funding, whose asylum claims have been put on hold, who are unsure from day to day if they will be detained and deported, whose English is poor so have not been able to get good advice during lockdown, whose mental health could be unstable because of traumas they have been through, or are you just stirring the pot and being a tad goody?

Whoever is responsible , and why they have done it is something that will be revealed in the days to come.

I think it would be kinder to think about the hurt and injured and their relatives rather than apportioning blame randomly to a group of people who can't be expected to take the blame for every anti social act in the country.

[The people who stabbed and were stabbed in Bournemouth yesterday btw, were apparently borne and bred Londoners, down for a day of drinking and close up socialising.]

viques · 26/06/2020 15:59

Goady not goody

Nellydean21 · 26/06/2020 16:05

Re the Reading terrorist murderer, plenty of people have me mental health problems, they dont go around stabbing people to death in public places in daylight. Nothing to do with lockdown or mental health it was a terrorist murder .

EasterIssland · 26/06/2020 16:11

@viques I’ve reas on the bbc about the asylum and I’ve actually thought the opposite. That it might have been someone from far right seeking revenge for reading and so
Whatever the reason tbh it’s really sad that this continues happening
