Steve Bing commits suicide

Steve Bing the philantropist, film-maker, ex of Liz Hurley and father of Damian Hurley commited suicide. Apparently he jumped from his apartment building.

I feel especially sad when someone who appears to have everything commits suicide. It must mean they felt so bad inside that they couldn't carry on, despite huge wealth and all the help and support that can buy.

I feel incredibly sad when I read about a life ending this way, to feel such despair must be truly awful.

I always found it strange that Steve was such a philanthropist and generous with his money to others but denied Damien his birthright and refused to acknowledge him as his son.

I hope Steve has some peace

@Beerincomechampagnetastes As I recall, he did the same with his daughter. They had to carry out a DNA test before he would acknowledge her. I wonder why? He had more than enough money to support them both. Very strange.

The philanthropy and birth right denial externally viewed looks like #be kind virtue signalling. Perhaps he rejected Damien because of his demons. Who knows. It is sad that this can never be put right. Perhaps Damien feels nothing. He seems very close to his mother. I have read speculation he is too close to her - almost like her clone.

I must admit I'd not heard of him and didn't know he was Liz H's ex and father of her son. It is terribly sad. The state of mind he was in is no respecter of a person's circumstances, can hit anyone. I didn't know about the DNA test to confirm paternity but a lot of people have done that, including Mick Jagger with Caris (Charis/Karis - Marsha Hunt's daughter). Just because they are rich it doesn't mean they want to be taken advantage of, especially after a no commitment relationship with someone who may have been seeing others. In Mick's case, he has been a good father to her and all his children.

Poor Damien and all the family. It's such a blow when someone commits suicide but he must have been in unbearable pain, a really dark place, poor soul. He's at peace now.

From what I have read, no, I don't think that they did meet.
One pp said that Damian 'may feel nothing', another says that he'll never get over it.
The reality is most likely to be a complicated and confusing middle ground.

Whilst it is very sad for the family and friends of Steve Bing, one should spare a thought for the ambulance workers / paramedics / firefighters and police who have to deal with the immediate after effects of this sort of suicide.
It must be very, very difficult and I daresay the impact stays with them forever.

My Dad committed suicide after walking out on us.
I agree with pp about a complicated middle ground of feelings.
I feel sad that any human felt so sad that suicide is the only option but I didn't know my Dad so my grief isn't intense.
I feel sad that I didn't know him and won't ever get that chance or my children.

The DM is saying he found the Covid19 isolation hard.
No one has said this and perhaps it's distasteful to do so but he had children and therefore family but he didn't appear to want them in his life.
Was it money ?
I know his children fought Steve Bing's father in court for the right to be benefactors in the grandfather's will and won their case.
SB appears to be very philanthropic which is a great trait.
So why not acknowledge his dc ?
Why decide not to be in their lives?
Perhaps if he allowed his children into his life he would have been happier.

I must say I found it bizarre that they have pledged to give away most of their fortune, and have given way $50mil here and there, but are aggressive in going to court to make sure that children don't get anything? I mean surely if it's to prevent people getting pregnant on purpose for a $$$ meal ticket, then be responsible with contraception, get a vasectomy?

We've been watching Succession (brilliantly written I think) and it has put me RIGHT off being a billionaire family scion!

The thing is Damien may have thought one day there may be some sort of relationship. Who knows? That avenue is gone and who knows what effect it will have on him.

Steve Bing took his father to court to ensure Damian and Kira DID get their inheritance. He also, weirdly, went to court to try to get Liz Hurley to accept his money to support Damian (she didn’t want the money and, in fact, simply refused to accept it). So it was the Grandfather that didn’t want them getting anything.
