What on earth is goin on in the farming world just now?

There seems to be no joy for farmers at the moment . First foot and mouth now bluetongue
here.

I read about this last night, can't believe it.

I don't really understand what it is (dim emotion!!), but now is the time to support all our famers.

It's awful. All markets have been stopped and it's the time of year when livestock farmers make some (not lots) money by selling off stock. Now they can't, have to pay to feed them, and the animals will be worth less once/if the restrictions are lifted as there's an optimal age to sell them. Yet again, it's going to cause real financial hardship.

As consumers it means a shortage of British meat next year amd no lambs in the fields next spring as the tupping (mating) can't begin as it normally does about now (because the rams can't be moved to be with the ewes).
