Yikes! Woman gives birth to second set of triplets!

Just saw this story. The chances of conceiving two sets of triplets naturally is 1 in 64 million. Imagine, two pregnancies and 6 children.

I have twin boys so I have an inkling of what it is like to have triplets but my goodness, two sets!

I wish the parents all the best!

wow! I like the way they've given them second names that go a, b, c, with their birth order .

whomovedmychocolate · 31/08/2007 20:36

Poor sod!

oooggs · 31/08/2007 20:36

wow - what am I complaining about????? dts would be a doddle to her

WendyWeber · 31/08/2007 20:40

I'm not sure they've got the odds right though - surely, like cot death, if it's happened once it's more likely to happen again?

That was how Sir Roy Meadow got Sally Clark banged up, by squaring the original figure.

Anyway, I wish them all the best too - 9 kids altogether?????

speedy, I had to peek at this but I'm keeping my hands over my eyes at the same time .

I am nearly speechless but our good friend T&T is almost the same........triplets and twins on the way. There but for one child goes she

speedymama · 31/08/2007 20:44

Yeah, I was trying to work out how they came up with those odds too but as I have been frazzled by raucous 3yo twin boys today, my brain has shut down! Still absolutely incredible though!

FG, I was thinking about T&T when I read this. Wow, these women deserve a medal!

Did u see on GMTV about a american woman who gave birth to 6 babies!!!

Is that sexuplets (sp??)

SenoraPostrophe · 31/08/2007 20:47

omg, 4 under twos at 17. at least she'll have lots of energy.

wendy - you are right.

beansprout · 31/08/2007 20:48

Those odds are stupid. If the chances of a coin landing heads or tails is 50:50, it remains that every time you toss the coin, it doesn't change.

four children aged 17.

WendyWeber · 31/08/2007 21:21

The father has 2 more

Presumably she knew that when she got up the duff with the first one. What does she expect people to think, really? (Even if they don't say it ) Does he earn enough to maintain 2 families and 6 kids? If not, who is paying for them?

Roskva · 31/08/2007 21:21

good grief

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 31/08/2007 21:35

The 2 x triplet woman from Ohio seems to have a good attitude to it. I don't get the statistics of that either but I'm halfway down my lemony gin (thanks fg) and I'm content to think 'wow' without needing maths to prove it's an infrequent event.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 31/08/2007 21:38

Blimey, when 17yo Carlie is my age, her triplets will be 21. And here's me only just getting my 2nd off to primary school...

NotAnOtter · 31/08/2007 21:49

gosh we are a judgemental lot

nooka · 31/08/2007 21:51

The statistics may be about the number of families with two sets of triplets rather than the individual chances of having triplets twice IYSWIM. However given the 8,000 and the 64m perhaps not. Twins often run in families suggesting some genetic link - I wonder if the same is tryue for triplets, in which case the odds quoted are probably wrong. Still I don't suppose many couples who have triplets go on to have many more pregnancies!

WendyWeber · 31/08/2007 21:58

There are 2 different families covered here, Otter. Dunno about anybody else but I'm only judging one of them

tripletsandtwins · 31/08/2007 22:31

gulps I wish her the very best!

FG - I am nearly speechless but our good friend T&T is almost the same........triplets and twins on the way. There but for one child goes she ...

Yes I'm nearly there, but thank god I'm not! Love my 3 to bits, but I wouldn't go through it again for any money!

Those facts are actually quite acurate:
The odds of conceiving "spontaneous" triplets is about 1 in 8,100

Today, odds are that 1 in every 1,300 are triplets, but that's increased dramatically by IVF, the odds for spontaneous is still the same.

I think they may have amplified the rarity of having triplets twice though -especially coz they're fraternal (the girls might be id, but 1 is def not! so that shows she is releasing more than 1 egg at ovulation). My dr told me the chance of having triplets again is pretty slim, but could happen. The chance of having twins is very high and if I just had a single I would be "lucky". I won't be having any more pregnancies to test out that theory!

Triplets and quads can run in families, whoever asked that!

Furball · 31/08/2007 22:37

there was an american couple on gmtv yesterday who had sextuplets not long ago. They asked the husband their names and he got them all mixed up.

tripletsandtwins · 31/08/2007 22:38

They're in Arizona...I think triplets are hard! I will never ever ever ever complain about them again after hearing these stories...well maybe just a couple of times

Frizbe · 31/08/2007 22:43

cripes, I struggle with two seperate ones and a part-timer (SS) two sets of triplets! I take my hat off to the Derby Lass as well, well done to her
