I understand that he thinks TV should be driven by high moral standards and not just grubbing for cash.
But it's easy to say that when you earn a million pounds a year Jez! Lots of people in the media lower down the food chain would be happy just to make a living!

MonkeyT, Paxo could go to the US but I don't think he'd last, he'd rather die than do as the sponsors tell him and public service radio over there pays total peanuts, he wouldn't touch those with a barge pole.

I honestly think the Beeb could play much much harder ball with these presenters/stars. They just need to point at the door and say there's heaps of talent who want your chair mate! Kirsty's great (although so rich owing to her and her husband's production company that she probably could do newsnight for nothing!) the other Paxo look alike is very good, Martha Kearney ain't bad. Fine. Let Jezza go!

And I do have some sympathy for the people who negotiate Moyles and Ross's pay - they could and would walk if not paid loads, but would it be the end of the world if they walked? I think both would regret it. What broadcaster in their right mind would want to work surrounded by advertisting? It's just the pits isn't it?!!

Anyway monkeyt - it's a real bugbear of mine, I think the BBC trust should caretake the license fee with a strong ethical sense. The BBC has it's privileges because it isn't the same as the market, the more it imitates the market, imo, the weaker the disntinction between public service and commercialism. Paying more vocational salaries is a strong message to the license payer that we can trust them with our money.

Aefondkiss · 29/08/2007 10:23

lol at hypocritical twonk

maybe if he took a pay cut there might be more money for quality programming, I knew he would be well paid, but wtf, I am stunned he gets that much....

ipanemagirl · 29/08/2007 10:26

what about Jonathan Ross getting 18 million though? Don't know if it's true but that is pretty bad isn't it?!

well, obviously I don't think anyone deserves to be paid that much(Paxman or Ross or whovever) whatever their job and whatever the reasons, no-one can actually justify that kind of pay imho

Aefondkiss · 29/08/2007 10:34

I don't actually watch tele/own a t.v haven't since ours broke and we decided not to replace it( 9 years ago) so does my opinion count,? the beeb etc aren't getting any money for me directly , but how much do they get from the government ....?

whatever I think the amount these people are being paid is wrong....

ipanemagirl · 29/08/2007 10:38

i think it's just greed on the part of these individuals.

It reminds me of all the gps my sister has worked with when she shows concerns about running certain drug trials and three separate gps have said to her "How do you think I can afford all the school fees if I don't do loads of these trials!"
Unbelievable.
