US c section trend

did anyone read an article in the times about american mothers demanding to have elective c-sections at 36/37 weeks in order to prevent ruining their figures. Apparently having it before full term means there hips to not become too wide (not sure medically this is correct!).

This is so strange as surely if you are that worried, you should either adopt or not have kids! I hope this belief does not come over here!

I heard this on the radio yesterday. What is astonishing is that doctors agree to put babies at risk in this way. And it's also astonishing that the women concerned are so ignorant of the long term ill effects this could potentially have on their children. I'm not really sure whether it's true though - it just sounds so bizarre and unlikely.

I know why would women who get pregnant because they want kids do this for no other reason than their hips! But then again, nothing surprises me, America is such a large country that anything can happen. I imagine that a silly celeb did it for convenience reasons then went on tv and said jokingly that it was to save her hips...............

I have to say that my hips went way before my baby came along!

I heard this rumour a couple of years ago about various British) celebs. The idea being that in the last month you put on "excess" weight which is the harder part to shift...

Having had 2 c-sections at 36+5 and 37+3 weeks (for medical reasons) I can assure everyone that it does not prevent your hips becoming wide, or stretchmarks or saggy belly

I agree with Prufrock!
