Here's a link to the report of him being cleared of professional misconduct.

I believe this case has actually clarified matters for medical professionals as to what is actually legal in these cases. Sometimes doctors do risk their careers because the law in this country is unclear, and not always on the side of commonsense. I think this judgement is a good one, but must have been very traumatic for the parents.

tHE BABY WAS GOING TO DIE, THERES NO QUESTION OF THAT.

iT WAS STRUGGLING AND SUFFERING AND HE MADE ITS DEATH PAINLESS AND QUICK.

wHAT ANY HUMAN WOULD WANT, WHAT ANY PARENT WOULD WANT FOR THEIR CHILD.

wE ALLOW DOGS TO DIE PAINFREE AND WITH DIGNITY SO WHYNOT OURSELVES?

kitsandbits · 18/08/2007 12:30

Oops caps wrong way round! sorry

winemakesmummyclever · 18/08/2007 14:37

Sorry Kits, all I meant is that I would rather my loved one was given something to help with the pain, even though that would contribute to their death, rather than something that was just given to speed up the process. At the end of the day, we all have our own opinions and feelings based on very different life experiences and it's good that we are able to discuss such things. After all, you never know what life has in store.

wmmc, I didn't know that about pancuronium, I just assumed it was a sort of morphine/pain easing drug.
That has changed my opinion slightly, I still think it was ending suffering and he shouldn't be charged but agree with you, I would not want a drug with this effect to be used.

Marina · 18/08/2007 23:51

Thanks for that info wmmc, I didn't know that about pancuronium either. Hmmm. Reading roisin's link made me wonder if it was chosen because of the spasms the babies were suffering
