Start a charity to help pay for auxilliary care for SN kids that many parents can't afford - SALT, OT, flights and costs for visits to other countries for treatments, respite care, private tutoring, etc.

Live on a farm with lots of animals.

Adopt a child. Or two!

totaleclipse · 15/08/2007 11:39

Give most of it to various charities, thats far too much money for one person.

expatinscotland · 15/08/2007 11:41

Start a fund to help working poor people find secure accommodation, particularly for families.

Offer to pay university/vocational training fees for people who don't qualify for grants but who will be stuck with debt for life to pay for their education.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 15/08/2007 11:41

Probably give most of it away to charity/family etc - Parkinsons Disease Soceity, buy a house for my parents/DB etc etc. Finish building our 5 bedroom detached house in Zim (yes we've actually embarked on building a new family home on DH's family "homestead" out in the sticks ), it's going to be enormous!, pay for a new church hall to be built - they have planning permission but need 1/2 million to actually build the thing - it's also going to be the "gym" for the two local schools as they don't have space/proper facilities......buy a bigger house, visit family in Australia.............

First of all I would book a holiday somewhere hot in a squillion star villa, with staff to pander my every whim and provide food and snacks all day long

then I would sit by my private pool with a notepad and have a think

mainly, family, friends, charity

then me me me me me me me me me me me me

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 11:49

first thing i would do is clear our debt...its crippling us!

Then i would do the selfish bit first.....buy a house (our first house!!!) a new car EACH(and lessons for me), take the boys to Toys R us and tell them have whatever they want (always wanted to do that!), fill upthe fridge and freezer as well as cupboards because we have never had all 3 full at once, book a holiday, GET MARRIED!!!

THEN

Make sure all families mortgages were piad off or buy thema house and new cars if they wanted them (would never give them cash as some family members woud waste it on illegal sunstances )

Give lots to charity

and helpout friends anonymously ie find out which bank they are with and just go and put somemoney in their account if they are struggling

expatinscotland · 15/08/2007 11:51

I sure as hell wouldn't go public with such a win, that's for sure!

themoon66 · 15/08/2007 11:52

First thing I'd do is hide it from my teenagers. They could make 35 million disappear in an afternoon I suspect

LucyJones · 15/08/2007 11:55

That's what I was thinking Expat - would never go public either.
I woud invest it so I could live comfortablyfor the rest of my life, do the same for family and then give the rest to charity.
So I would buy a property somewhre like London that would always rent , pay off the mortgage etc. Would hate to have all that money sitting in the bank

It think that amount of money could be a curse. Just imagine the scrongers who would pester you.

I am happy with what I have at the moment.

However a couple of million would be nice, but 35 million is crazy.

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 11:58

you have to go public i think if camelot ask you to. Think its in the back of the ticket that by buying it you agree to all publicity

MaureenMLove · 15/08/2007 12:01

To start with, I'd go and sit in my favourite spot in the Highlands of Scotland and really relax and enjoy the view! There'd be nothing niggling at the back of my mind, about something I've got to sort out when I got home, just clear my mind of all my financial commitments! Bliss!
THEN, I'd organise someone to come in whilst I'm away to finish decorating and building my house. I'm a woman of little needs or wants, just not to have to think everytime I spend would be wonderful!

Peachy · 15/08/2007 12:03

Send Misdee andfamily on a huge holiday

buy our own home

Enjoy giving money to people who need it

DH and i would buy a campsite together to run

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 12:05

yes, i think harefield woukd be quite high on peoples donations list

MaureenMLove · 15/08/2007 12:05

I wonder whose happier today? The £35 million winner or Misdee!

compo · 15/08/2007 12:05

I wouldbuy lots of property all over the world so I could go on holiday in stlye. I would let family and friends holiday to these places all the time.

Peachy · 15/08/2007 12:10

My guess is Misdee'll have mroe worries on her mind for a few days, he's not out of the woods yeyt- its a crticial epriod for him, but one that its wonderful he has had the chance of, iyswim

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 12:12

you're right peachy, very true.

i wonder if she would like us to organuse a tesco shop so she doesn't have to think of that at all for a while?

FoghornLeghorn · 15/08/2007 12:12

Lord only knows - surely it's an unspendable amount of money because of the interest it would accumulate ?
If only .......

MaureenMLove · 15/08/2007 12:13

Absolutely Peachy.

Peachy · 15/08/2007 12:14

That would be a good idea- I'll contribute what ic an, and I do ahve her addy

Hve to pop over to collect my boys (havent seen them for a week! Ya!- at nannys), perhaps start ta thread and come back to it? Must be the most practical help, and she doesn't like receiving money in itself after past events

Reallytired · 15/08/2007 12:14

But would £35 Million make you happier. What would it do to your relationship? What would happen to your kids at school.

I live in a small terrace house. My son doesn't go to the best of schools, but he is happy. We have everything we need even if its not everything we want.

I think if I was given £35 million I would put a lot of it into community projects. No one needs that amount of money for themselves.

MerlinsBeard · 15/08/2007 12:14

peachy, i have suggested it on the thread asking SGK if we can send cards. I remeber that she didn't like accepting peoples money and wanted it to be donated instead.
