I hadn't even heard he was ill.

Very sad. I met him once, very recently and very briefly. He found out I was from Sheffield and mde some joke about it!

He ought to have a memorial service with an official FAC number.

That's a great idea UQD. I'd heard he was ill but some people somehow you just can't imagine dying (illogical I know).

Anyway RIP Tony. A true risk taking maverick. Thanks for enlivening my teenage years.

so sad, i always thought tony looked like a really cool dad when i was younger.

i have danced my socks off in the hacienda and have really fond memories of manchester at that time.

a true icon who will be really missed...RIP TONY...

I was saddened to read of this great man's passing.

He made a priceless contribution to the UK music scene, may he rest in peace.
