Article here

I imagine this will atttract all sorts of people wanting to come and "study" the funny northern folk. "But there will be no place for northern cliches on the course." Hmm. I wonder if Stuart Maconie's "Pies & Prejudice" will be on the reading list.

You don't. But Morrisons does seem to major in pies - even down here. I take that to be a Northern sort of thing

meandmyflyingmachine · 13/07/2007 17:18

We have no Morrisons nearby now .

My MIL's nearest supermarket was a Safeway, which of course is now a Morrisons. She was very unhappy at that development I can tell you

She would be unswayed I suspect by the pie thing...

Yes ours used to be a Safeway. I am totally blown away by the pies. Where most stores have bags of fresh donuts, Morrisons have bags of mini meat pies.

This book should be on the reading list. Enjoyed it when I was a "bloody southerner" living in Cheshire's Golden Triangle.

"and investigates Moss Side from the inside of a locked car." (from said book).

narrow-minded, smug, little, soft, scardy-pants, twat.

There.

Thanks lilymaid, you've just sorted out birthday presents for my 'northern' sil's.

'The university said the course had already attracted interest from students as far afield as Essex'

wow really? that far?

How will they ever survive the rarified air?

oh purlease.

I used to drive with locked doors through Moss Side, though was only once diverted because of a drugs/guns incident. I used to go to rehearsals in a church in the middle of the infamous Hulme crescents - now mercifully long gone - designed for a mediterranean climate and put up in Manchester.
