So his mother is guilty of cruelty but the jury have failed to come to a verdict on Stephen Waterson.

Presumably he had a shit hot lawyer provided by his rich, well connected parents.

Poor alfie

Isn't Waterson Sr an ex MP or such? No doubt a SHL on board.

Also time after time after time each adult in such cases blame each other and neither are convicted or sentenced commensurate to the crime (usually death of a child) as not enough evidence to determine who caused what.

"She inflicted the broken bones, burns, crush injuries, choking, starvation, chemical burns from not changing a nappy, torn frenulum from forcing a bottle into a 1 months old mouth" "No, he did, I wasn't there was I" etc etc. Judges must be sick of this nonsense.

Baby P, Victoria Climbie, Daniel Pelka, now Alfie Lamb to add to a list of literally thousands of children killed by their parents or parents boyfriends/girlfriends.
Honestly I despair.
This was a particularly horrible way to kill a child I will say.

RIP Alfie.

Or he wasn't guilty

justforthisnow · 21/02/2019 22:19

@cdtaylornats The 3 witnesses in the car disagree with you, as per their court evidence. 81kg of pressure on a 3 year old skull is a bit, shall we say difficult, to argue is an accident.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 21/02/2019 23:55

Waterson Snr is an ex Tory government minister.

Which I’m sure had no bearing on things whatsoever.

Poor wee Alfie. He wasn't protected by his mum, but surely it was Waterson who killed him? The article I read suggests there may be a retrial?

PodgeBod · 22/02/2019 00:17

It's disgusting, to think a mother could just sit there while her child was crushed at her feet. I'm not sure why the jury disagreed on the verdict. I wish we could hear the reasoning.

converseandjeans · 22/02/2019 00:21

This case has been really upsetting. He was fine before getting in the car and came out dead. I find it hard to believe that there is no manslaughter charge. What a horrible man. Useless mother. Poor boy.

LaurenOrdering · 22/02/2019 00:25

There should be a retrial. It needs to be proved or not that Waterson did crush/trap poor little Alfie as all the witnesses say he did.
I believe the witnesses.

Eslteacher06 · 22/02/2019 00:26

The little boy was sitting on the floor of the car while they were driving..am I right? If so....WTAF?!

MadeForThis · 22/02/2019 08:58

It's heartbreaking. How can the mother be guilty of allowing his death if the boyfriend isn't guilty of causing it??

They both deserve to be jailed for a long time. Both equally guilty. Who could listen to a toddler screaming in pain and not help? Run away and blame your friends?

The evidence of witness intimidation speaks for itself.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 22/02/2019 09:08

He was found guilty of child cruelty, common assault, intimidation of witness/conspiracy to pervert course of justice - surely, with 3 prior convictions for assault, he is looking at a jail term? Surely?

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 22/02/2019 09:14

She was also found guilty of child cruelty.
Both were.
So there is no discrepancy between the sexes.
I am surprised at the verdict though as it seemed fairly clear cut what happened - even if he didn't intend to do more than assault the child, the toxic bastard kill the child, he did, which is why he was charged with manslaughter not murder.
I can only assume his defence made out child was more in her eyeline than his and so he could not hear him etc
Fucking diabolical.

I read that the car driver was his biological cousin so it looks like he had reconnected with his biological family.
Agree that the adoptive father must have pulled some strings.
It makes me sick that often in these cases where step fathers kill the off spring of their girlfriend they get really short sentences. Surely when they meet said partner they know they have a baby or small child who will need attention and looking after?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 24/02/2019 14:17

I think the driver was Alfie’s cousin.

Poor Alfie. I hope he's happy and at peace now Thanks

prh47bridge · 25/02/2019 17:30

Agree that the adoptive father must have pulled some strings

Exactly what strings do you think he has pulled to result in the jury failing to reach a verdict?

The mother was cleared of manslaughter. The jury failed to reach a verdict on the same charge for him. He can now be retried with a different jury.

Mississippilessly · 02/04/2019 20:12

Does anyone know an update to this? Is there to be a retrial?

prh47bridge · 02/04/2019 21:24

Yes, there will be a retrial.
