"Committee and judges marked down the cake because it had indentations from the oven rack"
so not the cooling rack then but the oven rack. Now that's strange, isn't it? Why would a victoria sponge which is in a TIN have indentations from the oven rack?

advance please Miss Marple ....

UCM · 05/07/2007 21:01

Barstards!!!

SueBaroo · 05/07/2007 21:02

gasp

you think there were shenanigans? Was it a fix???

Lisalumps · 05/07/2007 21:02

Is it even possible to differentiate between cooling and oven rack marks?

Lisalumps · 05/07/2007 21:04

I'll be honest after the 5p fiasco my mum always said "it's who you know not how you bake in these village shows, damn their quaint cobbled streets!

fishie · 05/07/2007 21:07

poor jenny brown

of course everybody knows one doesn't put cake directly on the rack to cool, it must be cushioned with a tasteful tea towel.

Lisalumps · 05/07/2007 21:08

Do you get marked down if the teatowel is not tasteful?

Lisalumps · 05/07/2007 21:08

I have so much to learn.....

SueBaroo · 05/07/2007 21:11

What if you have one of those waffle tea-towels? Won't that leave a mark?

tries to suppress the rising panic in her tone

UCM · 05/07/2007 21:12

I would be able to tell if someone had put their tops on a grill thingy, sadly most people do. Yeuch.

UCM · 05/07/2007 21:13

What you do is get them off the hot tin asap, put them on a very fine grill, with a couple of books either side, but never let the bit that will be shown be on top.

edam · 05/07/2007 21:21

PMSL but she seems very philosophical about it, bless her.

Bibis · 05/07/2007 21:24

Poor thing, isn't it the taking part rather than the winning?

bookwormmum · 05/07/2007 21:28

Mrs Brown didn't come 3rd in a one-cake race 11 years ago - that was Julie Dent.

Presumably she now gets her revenge by marking down other people's cakes .

UCM · 05/07/2007 22:02

I have just watched the footage.

Her cake DID have indents on though.....sorry

UCM · 05/07/2007 22:03

And she was a bit 'scarce' with the icing sugar, once again sorry

ScottishMummy · 05/07/2007 22:10

it was the idents what did her in - infamy infamy all got it in for me!!!!!!!!!!

Peachy · 05/07/2007 22:16
