I have joined this site solely to remind all you thoughtless, forgetful, selfish ba#@ards that Madeleine McCann is missing!!!!!!!! I cannot understand how anyone can sit with their arms around their own children, in the comfort of a cinema whilst feeding their children popcorn and Coke that there are lots of mothers in this world who cannot do this. Their children have been taken from them and I wonder if any of you had the money or the resources available to them, I wonder if you would have campaigned this long or this hard for their daughters return. I wish the McCanns every success and only wish I could physically find their daughter for them. I am taking my 6 kids to see Shrek tomorrow and I hope my cinema is still showing the Madeleine film. I hope the publicity generated stays in your faces for a long time to come. Tell me, if she passed in front of you down at the shops or at the park could any of you be bothered to actually tell someone. Or are you all just to happy in the knowledge that its not one of your children. There but for the grace of God............

I'll have you know I used public funds from the NHS to qualify and then have as much time on maternity leave as possible.I then defected,as soon as possible.
I now only work 2 hrs a week in the private sector which more than pays for me to take my 6 children to the cinema every day if I want to.
I read the Daily Mail and live in a bubble with my oh-so-successful consultant husband.

BreeVanDerCamp · 03/07/2007 18:28

Ooooooooh morningpaper wine you say....LGJ wanders off, to see if there is any of the Times wine left. It always gets hammered the first day or two....

MamaMaiasaura · 03/07/2007 18:31

edam · 03/07/2007 18:36

Mind you, there are nutty paediatricians...

?the damage we may be doing to the Madeleine Campaign. Madeleine is missing and all of our children are at risk from these monsters?.

Firstly, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Madeleine Mccann is sliding out of the news, there are more important things to be reported, and yes, I do believe that terrorists trying to blow us all up is more important than one missing child, that?s not to say that one missing child isn?t important, but terrorism is more so in the grand scheme of things imo. But these complaints about the ads etc have ensured that Madeleine has, once again, made it into the media. And you can?t have positive without negative, even when Madeleine went missing there were people who criticised the Mccanns for leaving the children, but the general view was a positive one.

Secondly, a bit of perspective me thinks, your children are far more at risk from people they know than from ?these monsters?. Yes there are always risks but there?s more chance of your child being hit by a car or being struck down by illness or being abused by a family member, than being abducted by a complete stranger, and yet I don?t see people rushing to warn their children about family members or not taking them out in case they?re hit by a car.

So Whoosh reveals herself as the ponce who told me about that Waitrose vodka!

SIX bottles?!

Make sure you TASTE as it's steeping and remember, it's better to go light on the ingredients and add to it than the other way round.

handlemecarefully · 03/07/2007 18:51

Must admit I was (very) inpatient with the reaction to the Madeleine adverts preceeding Shrek. I couldn't in all conscience complain about my children being 'disturbed' by the advert (particularly since it proved fairly easy to distract them with popcorn) when they were sitting there all warm, cosy and safe next to me.

That said, I don't like Bigmamie's approach on this thread.

KrustyTheClown · 03/07/2007 18:53

did you know that using that many exclamation marks in a thread title means you are totally mad

it's a mumsnet rule

Tis true Krusty. Is a sign of extreme Pschotrollopathy

KrustyTheClown · 03/07/2007 19:02

lol

willow · 03/07/2007 19:02

What I don't really understand is why show this ad before a kids' movie? Surely 99% of adults in the audience will be parents and, as such, brutally aware of what has happened to Madeleine and far more likely to have followed the campaign closely? Isn't it a case of preaching to the totally converted? Surely you'd be far better off showing this ad' before films aimed at purely adult audiences, thereby catching the non-parent audience who might have stopped thinking about Madeleine?

And do you know what? Yes, I would like to be able to choose what I tell my son about this, and how I tell him. That doesn't make me callous, it makes me a not half-bad parent.

NKF · 03/07/2007 19:21

Presumably it was shown before Shrek because it's a fundraising ad and parents of small children are the target market.

SueBaroo · 03/07/2007 19:25

Waits for NKF's suggestion to explode when trolls read it

willow · 03/07/2007 19:27

hadn't considered that - good point.

flack · 03/07/2007 19:43

Wow, there are cinemas out there where you can take your own food and drink in? I never knew that. You pick up the best tips on Mumsnet.

PattyBouvier · 03/07/2007 20:03

Whenever I see more than one exclamation mark in a heading my "poster of limited intelligence" warning siren goes off.

Good to see it's still accurate.

Bartholomewgook · 03/07/2007 20:33

Oh God, not another one.

Beat it numbskull.

Paediatrician my arse.

Bartholomewgook · 03/07/2007 20:34

Nice to Fio on top form still too

(about half way down the thread if anyone wants to see it)

fullyqualifiedpaediatrician2 · 03/07/2007 22:49

The OP is not only lacking in grammar, she is what we doctors would call "barking".

This is a medical opinion, you understand.

(All right, own up, who bagsied "fullyqualifiedpaediatrician"?)

WendyWeber · 03/07/2007 22:51

You mean there is another one here???

fullyqualifiedpaediatrician2 · 03/07/2007 22:57

Another two, at least, WW!

Come on out now, fullyqualifiedpaediatrician, don't be shy, tell us your medical opinion on current affairs and whether you give your children Coke

hunkersnafumunker · 03/07/2007 23:02

Ohhh - there is a fqp and a fqp1???

Blimey. Never seen either of them!
